I found out the problem with my crew cab 2004 Tacoma and got it fixed. It was the controller for the electrical control to the injectors. There is a warranty on this part. A $1,400.00 repair that Toyota. Covered all of it. Free to me. So if you car engine does not follow the gas pedal. Take it to Toyota.

please explain more about what these symptoms are and how to recognize them?

what is the warranty recall or service bulletin number? it should be on your paperwork

a few on here have been having what they think is TPS problems that may turn out to actually be related to this

The 1st gen Taco TBW systems have long had probs with the TPS and Toyota only sells the complete t-body. Some folks were able to source just just the TPS from Europe, a real pain if I remember.
Folks initially felt it was a heat problem causing some adhesive or insulation inside the TPS to break down. They were fooling around with bypassing the coolant lines to the t-body.
I never really kept up with what was going on but it looks like from the OP there is some kind of service "program". This is different from the TPS "wiper and coil" contact getting sketchy.

I don't remember the symptoms but it was not an idle quality issue.
