2002 dc trd. Billy 5100's lowest setting, 882 ome with packer, ome dakar. 33x12.50x15
    other than that, stock.

Here's the problem, I tore up both inner boots about 2 months after the lift. replaced both
shafts with aftermarket. They lasted 3 weeks, blew out both inners again from rubbing at the flaps, the most inboard flaps is where they split. Pulled my old shafts apart and installed new toyota boots with boot mod completed. They are stretched out nicely now. Still have the inner most flap rubbing enough that it is wearing a groove in them again. I need a suggestion....

Should I put a diff drop in? Would it help? I had planned on front bumper and winch, but as everyone knows, something always comes up when money is involved, so I have not had a chance to hang anything heavy on the front at this time. but replacing the boots every three weeks will not cut it.

Or do I need to Bite the bullet and replace the springs with something lighter until I can afford to drop real money on a bumper and winch?

882s are tall as shit without any weight up front. Diff drops are cheap and take maybe 30 minutes to install. See if it helps. Otherwise, get some weight up front or get some shorter springs (881s). The 882s are pretty light as it is, just tall.

I had all the intentions in the world to order a bumper with in a week or so of the lift, but kids seem to soak up twice as much money as expected everytime.....

diff drop ordered...... fingers crossed it will get me by...

If you were a 2nd gen I would tell you to stay away from diff drops, but being that you are first gen I will actually encourage it. I will also tell you that you should probably avoid the boot slide mod and do the LT CV boot replacements by SDHQ. I did them for my lift and they have been an absolute savior. Here is their website:

    http://store.sdhqoffroad.com/tacomacvbootkits.aspx

Select 96-04 Tacoma in the drop down menu. You can thank me later. Lol.

What is the lt boot going to gain me over the mod? Forgive me for not understanding the difference, sdhq is not terribly informative on what they are actually doing with this boot.... I am using oem boots at this time btw...

The boot is built differently than stock. Not only is it full rubber over plastic but it also spaces the ribs out further than the stock locations so they don't rub.

I'm using the Sonoran steel diff drop AND the boot slide mod. Still having issues but the boots last much longer. I am fine tuning the length that the boots need to be stretched to keep them from tearing at the inner end but have yet to know for sure if it will work out.

    Update...
Diff drop made a difference, but not enough. going to order some of the sdhq boots, and hopefully free up some change for a bumper....

the SDHQ boots aren't any different from normal stock boots. The only ones that are different are those orange high angle ones.

The orange high angle boots, most of what I have read people are not terribly happy that they are not fixing what they were designed for.... as in they are tearing up just as quick. Would this be true...

When I called SDHQ and asked them about their cv boots, they told me that they are the same as stock, just different material. The person on the phone told me that if my stock ones are tearing then theirs will tear also, unless I buy the high angle boots.

I called camel Toyota and ordered just the inner boots. It comes with the boot, grease, washers, and bands and did the boot slide mod. So far so good. No oozing or any signs of wear.
