I’ve been noticing a mildew funk when I get in my truck recently, especially after it rains. I noticed the smell was coming from the top of the door arm rests. I thought it was from sweat and putting my arms on the top of the window. Nope. I rolled the windows down and separated the seals and took a whiff. Yep. Inside the door reeks. Every door.

The truck only has 1800 miles. No blocks on the drains. Obviously it’s under warranty, so I’ll likely take it to them to correct it, but I don’t understand why it occurred in the first place. Anyone else notice anything else similar? Go take a whiff. I’ve seen treads about this on 2nd gen but not 3rd.

To add. The exact source of the smell is the felt-ish weatherstripping.

I’m 100% sure it’s the window seal. The ac doesn’t smell, if I put my nose to the window seals with the window down it reeks.

    Whoever smelt it dealt it.

Have the dealer take the door panels off and see if the plastic liner is there from the factory. The plastic keeps water out.

Most likely. I think I’m going to try to get one of those skinny foam paint brushes and soak it in Lysol and to try and clean all the felt on one window to test it out.

The plastic is probably fine. It’s just the felt of the top weatherstripping that stinks.

I think this is the felt itself getting stank, naturally I think. We have a '23 Camry that has the felt wheel liners and after a drive in the rain the felt will have an odor to it. Might be coincidental I don't know, but throwing it out there.

The sheeting is there to keep moisture contained in the door structure and off the door panel.

It's why there are weep holes across the bottom of the doors. To let the water out that's going to come in.

I’m betting you have some type of water leak in that truck. Anything is possible, but in my nearly 35 years in the field I have never heard of this.
Keep us posted on what the dealer says!

Could it be mold growing on the felt from moisture in the truck because of a water leak?

My theory is it’s been raining a shit ton in FL this past month, and I park in a garage. It’s possible the seals just held water and didn’t dry leading to mildew. I do my best to blow the water off the truck before I park. And drive it the next day after it rains so it can dry off, but maybe those attempts may have been futile. Never had this happen in another vehicle though.

None the less, i got some foam brushes and Lysol and worked it in the seam. It SEEMS better, but the Lysol scent may be masking. I’ll know for sure in a few days after that wears off.

Did it smell, only when you put your nose against the window seal, or does it smell to high ho-lee shiet in the cabin with windows shut?

I have faintly noticed it in the truck after it rains, but I smell it all the time if I put my nose to the seal.
