If you have an auto Tacoma, can the non-electric shiftiing tc from an auto FJ Cruiser swap into the Tacoma?

OK, so this would not be for an electronic shift 4wd as well as an auto trans? It's all very interesting but a lot for my meathead brain to comprehend

Yes it can. Thats how it all got started. I wanted a manual shifting t case in my auto taco and the FJ Cruiser was the best choice.

Yes it would. You take out your electronically shifted T case and put in the manual shifting t case from the FJ Cruiser. But to get all the benefits I discribed above you would also have to do the twin stick conversion on the FJ Case before you swapped it in.

Go here FJ Case in the Automatic Tacoma

    Wyatt,
For those of us 6speed taco owners, is it a straight 6speed fj transfer case swap oppose to the auto fj case? Also very interested in getting this done, are you able to get automatic fj transfer case relatively easy or have any recommendations of where to get them besides the dealer. Thanks. If I get a decent tax return this year, I maybe hitting you up.

It is pretty much a straight forward swap from the six speed to the FJ case from the six speed FJ just as the auto is pretty much a straight forward swap. Both have to have a holt put into the floor and the twin stick option is highly recommended.

I can get the FJ case pretty easy from the auto fjs. The six speeds are very hard to get so that why I do the input shaft swap on the auto FJ case for the six speed guys.

What is a ballpark for one of these swaps?

To get the FJ case for the auto Tacoma with the twin stick conversion is $850.00. That includes the twinsticks from Marlin Cralwer and the conversion of the FJ case into twin stick configuration. It is $300 more for the six speed FJ case conversion if you don't have a six speed core from the Tacoma and if you do have a core then it's $100 more

So what you saying AWD transfer case out of FJ should fit ? (As far as bolting goes ) I just need to play with wires to make actuator work right?
I am asking because I found one so I will get it then and see what I can do with it. If it does not work I will have transfer case for sale ha ha
    BTW Thanks for info:proposetoast:

You will probably need the computers to make it all work for all wheel drive because you have add in the front. There is going to be a lot more to do than just bolting it up. You have two completely different platforms that your trying to make do the same thing and they use different computers to make them work. It's not going to be an easy swap at all.

Not a bad deal. I thought it would be more. Now if you could find buyers for all the stock Tacoma cases you could do a core program and make it even less on the buyer. I wonder if there are enough wanting to do the prerunner to 4x4 conversion to generate a sufficient demand.

We are talking about VF4B TC right? One out of manual FJ with AWD ? I am pretty sure this one is manual shift so I dont think I need computer for it. Front Diff is easy to lock it and keep it locked or replace that ADD half shaft with solid one.

BTW: Reason why I am looking into AWD is to make truck more nimble. 2WD or 4H makes it front plow. AWD should make truck tighter in turns especially when running on snow.
I also Own a FZJ80 and switching to AWD is the only way to keep up with Jeeps when going around corners :D

You can try it without the cpu's but I just looked at the schematic and there is a center diff lock switch that has a junction going to the 4wd cpu. That wire goes to an indicator on the t case to let the computer know the center diff lock is active. Your current system has no provision for this at all plus the plug junction at the diff is completely different and you would still need to swap out your add for one from the manual FJ if they fit. Still a ton of work to do. If you get it working properly please post it up. I'm curious to see how it will all work.

Actually, I think I found the TC case I want so here is the plan

    1. Front ADD (actuators are the same but plugs are slight different with different color of wires. No Bigge that can be solved by removing pins and inserting them into other plug. The number and order of connections on 4wd ECU is exactly the same. (also they all 12V)

    2. Center diff switch - For sure I am going to need wire harness for switch but will wire Center Diff lock light into Rear Locker light (since I dont have one anyway.)

3 Second Center Diff Motor - yep going to need wire harness for that too.

4 Center Lock Position sensor - yep Going to need wire harness for that.

So I will need bunch of extra wires goign to TC case I will look for complete wire harness to save myself headache of making connection.

Time to start collecting parts :)
