and since you ARE STILL uninformed... Heres what happens when state and federal rules overlap

The law that applies to situations where state and federal laws disagree is called the supremacy clause, which is part of article VI of the Constitution. The supremacy clause contains what's known as the doctrine of pre-emption, which says that the federal government wins in the case of conflicting legislation

I think what hes saying is...DOT (Federal) allowed aftermarket headlights....but till recently Hawaii did not... an example of state laws over ruling federal regulations.

Random but also related to Fed Vs State Laws...

It's also legal to smoke weed for medical purposes in Hawaii, yet against Federal law.

If you see my post above, the reason hawaii STATE had to allow it, is because FEDERAL allowed it... When the two disagree with each other, federal has trump card, no pun intended

According to the feds, no, were not supposed to... But again, we can make rules and its still illegal for the feds... My point being, the feds can still put it on record if you are convicted of a federal crime, which petty possession and use are not... But if the feds allowed it, state would need no further legislation on the matter

Ok so this could apply to car inspections too then?

Hawaii can make rules that say its ok to have the TPMS light on and still pass inspection....Feds don't like it, but its possible right?

Locally yes federally no. If the federal government wants to they can go and raid all the dispensaries and grow houses in any state that has legalized marijuana. It's a tricky subject but the federal laws do supersed the local laws in those states also regarding drugs legality.

You again? Stop already. What federal inspection? Look, of course a vehicle will pass if no lights on the dash stay on. My point was that they can still pass if the Check Engine, ABS and TPMS lights are on. You provided false information regarding these specific lights and I just wanted to correct you for the benefit of anyone reading. And you darn right it's my license. I inspect cars as instructed by agents of the state. I have never had an infraction nor failed a license test. Please go get your own license so that you may fail cars as you see fit.

Finally a correct statement! They will fail for an SRS light being on. I'd be happy to provide you my station and inspector number but who will you report it to? You're not an inspector so your "report" will have no credence.

No, I signed up because I thought this was a helpful forum for Tacoma owners. And I wasn't aware that post count = intelligence. Perhaps I should've quoted you one at a time in order to pad my post count. I hadn't intended to troll you but you started it by pushing your position on safety inspections.

Awww, I was hoping to get a piece of that pie! I'd love to fail people and make all kinds of money fixing all the things I needlessly failed them on.

Whatever already. Maybe I should just give my license to you so that you can start doing PMVI inspections. That way, you won't have to fail the test again.

And obviously you are only doing what youre told to do and not what your supposed to do... FMVSS is to be upheld, which it does not sound like youre doing... You just go ahead on and keep on doing what youre doing... I guess someone has to do it, right?

Why are you stuck on FMVSS? Those regulations are for MANUFACTURERS. It has nothing to do with state inspections. Im not inspecting cars being built to be sold in the US. Don't speak of my integrity because that's all you have left. I have never posted any personal attacks on you. Can't you just admit to being wrong? Maybe apologize? I know you're young and maybe it's not your fault that you were misinformed at some point but must you resort to mud-slinging? Bottom line is that you DON'T have an inspectors license and I do which puts me in the position of having the ultimate say in what passes and what doesn't, regardless of what you may have heard.
