I have a 2012 tacoma which has an empty bay for a plug above the fuse box to the left of the steering column. It appears in the manual that this is for an 110vac outlet but mine is empty. Can someone point me to a thread discussing how to install this? Or am I completely wrong about this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm wrong. Inverter/110 switch is just above that.

    Wrong from here down :)
That is the location for the switch that turns on your inverter / 110 outlet in the bed.

That’s just where the button goes for the 110 outlet in the bed in the trd and limited models. If you want a 110 outlet, just buy an inverted. I think I spent $30 on mine and it works perfect. Plugs right into the 12v outlet.

The bed outlet can handle up to 400 watts when parked. I'm wondering how much you could pull through the dash mounted 12v before blowing the fuse. 400 watts would be 33.3 amps at 12v. Right?

Honestly, even the 400 watts is pretty useless... I need to install a 2000 watt...

It all depends what you do with it. I’ve used my little one to power lights, charge laptops, phones, power tool batteries. Etc. mine always gives the option to connect directly to the battery. I do not remember the wattage of it though.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm just spoiled with all my USB ports for charging phones. Just looked up how much a laptop charger takes, and sounds like wattage is pretty light even on that. 65-90 watts on a couple examples i found.

I just know that the 400 watts couldn't power a corded drill or small shop vac :( I was hoping!

You’re right. It wouldnt power those. But mine powered a drop light when I installed my sliders, that was pretty handy
