Their job is to install tires on wheels, not much else. If they can't take pride in mounting tires to aftermarket wheels then thats pretty bad.
A bit of effort and the right equipment and those wheels should be perfect after install, until you go offroad.

Exactly!!! I wouldn’t give a fuck how minimal the damage is. The fact is they are at fault. I had a tire shop scratch a wheel on my Mustang and made them buy me a new wheel. Before having the work done I always say, “If you can’t mount tires on these wheels without scratching them, tell me now, and I’ll take them to someone who can.”

I asked a buddy who worked at a tire shop if they have anything special to put on the breaker arm on the tire machine to protect good wheels from damage, he said no, they don't do anything special for good wheels. Not great to hear.
When I was a kid I worked in a garage and helped change tires and we had nylon type pads you could clip onto the breaker arm to protect the wheels from scratches. That was in the 80s.

I'm glad I'm not alone, the arguments that "they will get scratched eventually" or "it's not that big of a scratch" shouldn't apply.

I wasn't aware it was this difficult to mount wheels without scratching them....

Professional tire shops have tools that attach to breaker arms to prevent wheel damage.

Did you see if some of that is wax/paste?

Had two sets of wheels put on and had the wax stuff on after, it came right off. I think they are using wax as some sort of protecting these days while putting tires on rims

I do see some scratches though.

Yeah, some of it was some type of grease they use during install and came off and is really what drew my attention in the first place

Im with you on that, I've had 2 sets of tires mounted on my Ray10s with no damage. Yes I have a little rock rash and a gouge in the ring on the outside of a few now, but I personally caused that to happen wheeling, so it's no big deal.

What I would say to try though is some rubbing compound and a good wax afterward. That should get rid of some of those lines, at least partially. I would not let the dealer's "wheel guy" deal with them though.

truck tires are pretty easy to mount, doesn't take much to mount a big ass tire on a 16inch rim, I have a little damage on my f5s only cause the nubs tried to front cone them when they balanced. tisk tisk

Very true! Low profile tires on high performance sports cars are way more difficult. Some repair shops will not even attempt to mount them.

Demand new wheels, same thing happened to my scs wheels when the lazy dipshit at the shop used worn out equipment. There is a nylon part on the mounting arm that prevents damage this wears down and is replaced by tire shops that don’t like buying customers $$$ wheels. There should be ZERO damage when mounted correctly. The shop paid me for my wheels and I ordered new ones and had them mounted elsewhere. It was embarrassing how easy and perfect they were.

    Same crap everyone else got
I had those same marks on my fn fx pros after install. I was mad at first but after some rubbing with a wet finger it came off. Have you tried to wash it off yet or do you know its scratched into the paint?
