where I live they run $185 plus 15% tax, but that’s not my point. Just saying with the brand they didn’t impress me

I'd pay $550 for the OEM if you chose to go Bilstein.

Sure. But they’re the cheap shocks from that brand.

I could easily be wrong but isn't the trd OR suspension pretty comparable to the 6112?

No, the stock off road suspension is more inline with 2 sticks covered in marshmallows... but really I think the stock OR is similar to 4600 bilsteins.

Actually, I think the 4600 a way better...

Here is stock OR next to 4600 (2nd gen)

I am running the 6112’s with 5160’s and love them. Great on pavement and great offroad.

I voted for using the trd pro suspension. Mainly because thats what I used in my truck and I love it, I went from stock offroad suspension to this. But, I also got my pro suspension for $150 (yes, one hundred fifty bucks).

There is absolutely no comparison. One is premium shock tuned for the Tacoma, the other is generic designed for a million and one applications that can’t be tuned. Put them on and try one after the other would be your best bet, it’s not hard to swap out shocks.

I would addd. I’ve used bilstein for years (~30) on road and track vehicles and love them for that application (And still do used them). For off-road they absolutely suck compared to Fox or King. I used to use them when I first got into off-road, that was until I got pissed off with them not lasting, and had some custom tuned Fox made. That’s when I realized just how bad they were. They simply don’t work for off-road IMO.

Both are prone to leaks, no idea what would last longer. I would suggest SPC control arms on either. Get great caster numbers for on road manners.

Tbh I’d buy the OEM off you for the right price. If that’s what you end up doing!

It's a very, very similar ride on road.

How many miles before rebuild on each set?

The company who builds Bilstein is notorious for their arrogance and quality at the high end. They build avionic, and formula 1 setups.

That being said they offer different price points so different quality level. Comparing 5100 to 6112 is not a fair comparison.

The Fox Pros are not as good as the Fox 2.5 aftermarket.

The Bilstein 6112 are much better than the 4600 and 5100.

I was on the fence about going to the 8000 series Bilstein, but the 6112 were best value.

Can you still return the Billy’s? If yes return the 6112’s and go with the Fox. Else its a toss up.

I’d for sure use the TRD shocks in your situation

Na but I will sell them for close to what I paid. Ended up deciding to go with the Fox setup. Should be great for my needs!
