All the dealer would have to say is the lift put the DLA (drive line angle)out of spec by even 1 degree and this caused the needle bearings not to rotate as it was designed, and this caused the failure and the wear was accelerated by the owner driving it for X thousand miles without having it repaired. Heaven help you if you dont have any records of the maintenance lubrication showing the vehicle was serviced properly, they will add this to the reason and you will squirm even more. Now they have you just where they want you, now you have to spend your money to say they are full of shit.

its not a modified front diff. The new suspension components cause the already existing shitty part to be more problematic. A minor suspension lift (which Toyota offers) isn't the cause and they obviously recognize this. The bearings aren't failing... they just don't work well. That's why they are using different bearings now. That's why there's a TSB. It's not a typical 'replace the part with a new identical one under warranty because it failed' situation. There is no way an aftermarket part damaged a toyota part because the toyota part being replaced is being replaced because it doesn't properly do its job - not because it broke. Old Man Emu is not responsible for poor work by Toyota engineers in designing this system. It fails faster on lifted vehicle. Not solely on lifted vehicles.

If this problem was caused by the aftermarket parts, there wouldn't be a TSB.

Ok just for the sake of argument Let put it this way. Lets say the drive line angle spec which by the way is published is say 2* min to 3* max (typically). They show yours at 4*. Right then and there you exceeded the max allowable angle and if it was less than 2* needle bearings cant spin properly they skid which wears the hardness off the needle thus causing excessive bearing wear. How can you, mma, indy shop or whoever did the work argue that, especially if they have an alignment sheet showing yourrs was off. Just being devils advocate.

I installed Billys at 1.75 and 1.5 block in the back at 2k miles my self. Then I have had 3 warranty TSBs performed on my truck for free including front diff bearing, door seal, and axle vibration shims with no issue from Toyota or dealership. These were performed at 2 different dealerships only because one was closer to my work.

Also if dealer installs an APPROVED lift then they will warranty it. My dealership sells multiple special edition trucks with lifts. All covered by warranty.

Guys, I need some help here...Installed new fox suspension which gave 1" lift in front. I added a diff drop (1") and the next day I hear the hum--hum--hum only in 2 wheel drive driver side, switch to 4H its gone. Brought it into Toyota, and they got back to me saying Toyota Canada told the dealership to do nothing and told me to return it to stock and hopefully it goes away. Otherwise its all my problem. I've only got 7000kms on the thing and I changed zero angles, I'm fuming at the moment. I told them about the tsb from last gen and they dont seem to care. What should I do? I guess now I have to talk to Toyota Canada directly...any advice would be appreciated.

Edit my dealership service manager told me they would have to do a full diff replacement at my expense...when I asked about just bearing replacement he fluffed off what I said even after I brought up the tsb from last year.

I dunno, everyone on here suggested it so I threw it on...ill take it off tomrrrow and see. if that was all that's causing the problem, does it nessesarily mean there is any damage to the needle bearing?

Bearings usually aren't damaged. Just a weird vibration that's amplified by lift. Newer TSB bearing usually makes vibration go away. Fixed mine @ 4000 miles.

Well, did a 2" lift here and even did the diff drop and not even 20 miles later noise. Did a lot of research on this. I would recommend people go to http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-8536125-toyota-8-clamshell-bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html and watch their videos. They explain the issue very well and why it happens.

I tired it in 4x4 and went away, 2wd comes back. Couple times it stayed away but usually comes right back again. Anyway went to dealer and setup appointment to have the TSB bearing installed. The TSB bearing is a little longer which gives a little more support but I guess I am not going to hold my breath that it will stay fixed. And as others have stated the TSB bearing is for up to 2015 model year however the bearing will work on 2016 also from what I am told. I crawled under my truck and moved the shaft up and down and was blown away at the amount of movement. I guess if it doesn't work I see a bushing in my future also. 999crazy said the dealer did the bushing for him so I guess if the new bearing doesn't fix it I will see if they would do that for me also.

So are there many people who have had the TSB bearing installed who have not had anymore issues and if so how many miles on it.
With the amount of slop in the spider gear I can't believe it would last very long. Oh and if any of my info is incorrect please correct me
so there isn't any misinformation. :anonymous:

I had TSB bearing done at 4K miles right after lift was installed. Noise fixed with TSB. Now at 14k miles and still no issue.

Is there any reason not to get the ECGS bushing installed just in case when I get the lift done and drop the mic on the way out?

Honestly the only reason I did the TSB is because it was free. Still no issue after 10k. Hopefully it stays that way.

Well I guess the TSB bearing sounds a little promising. I went to the dealer today and talked to the owner about the bushing to see if they would install it if the bearing didn't end up fixing it and he said they would. I ended up ordering the bushing today from eastcoastgearsupply.com . I would guess that since I ordered it the noise will stay away :/.

When I was searching for this issue on TW I searched it in 2016 only so needless to say I missed the HUGE "OFFICIAL" thread in 2nd gen which of course I seen tonight, oops.

Last time a dealer said they would not cover my warranty which I new they should. Meaning I feel I know more then the techs less the computer side with some understanding of that too. I went went into the showroom and let about 10 people know the service managers name and how they do not stand behind there customers. Got my tsb springs and new sport rims with a spare set. Another time a synchronizer went out the dealer looked at it. Went out completely the next day. Claimed I drained the t fluid after on my receipt they say they changed it when looking at my problem. I said I did not and was called a liar. Well I do not take fond to that and ended up on the other side of the service desk. I was asked to leave the property and went to arbitration won and the service manger was fired. I have two dealers i go to now and they are wonderful and go straight with warranty and tsbs. Wonder why they are rated the best.
