Damn, that rear diff does look beefy. Looks so much nicer to set up than a Dana.....no case spreaders...blah blah. How is carrier location (backlash) set? Shims?

Yes. Shins for carrier location. I personally prefer shims to threaded adjusters, but others like the threaded adjusters better.

I am very impressed with how stout the new 8.75 rear axle is. This thing is no joke!

Any people put a 4.88 under a stock auto truck?

Even then you are under the RPM manual truck.

Anyone know what's available for the 8" rear in terms of a posi unit or locker? I have no need for a front locker but rear would be nice.

Here is a link to a couple of options:
    http://www.justdifferentials.com/category-s/2663.htm

I am going to opt for the Auburn due to being an American build and good customer service.

man, i'm waiting for the options for the 8.75. really hoping for a posi option for the MT. and i'd gladly give up the rear e-locker for it if that's necessary.

Give up a rear locker? That's a new one, haven't heard that before.

not that i'm wanting to, but i am willing to if a posi was an option. i'll use a posi constantly. i'd use a rear e-locker probably less than 0.0001% of the time i use the truck. it's a low speed off road traction solution i rarely if ever need. but i'd use the shit out of a posi daily, and it will help me more with poor weather traction on road than the e-locker. i've had huge success with a posi on rwd vehicles in snow and wet on road.

Do you mean a locked differential? Our trucks already have lsd....im confused.

An lsd allows the inside and outside wheels to turn at different speeds, while the locker gives us the option to fully lock the rear diff when needed.

To me, posi is essentially the same thing as a limited slip differential.

not intending to derail this thread. but to answer, the OE "Auto-LSD" is a low speed brake-actuated solution. it does not perform like a positraction diff. totally different performance. the Auto-LSD we have is for low speed only and will only come on if you deactivate VSC manually.

I spoke with Randy's Ring Pinion and ECGS. They both said it will be years till anything other than an ARB is availible for the new 8.75.

I think the Tacoma is the only one using that axle right now, and the fact that the OR's come with a locker makes it even less desirable for the after market to make anything.

I wanted a limited slip, or a lunch box locker for my SR, but for now, no go.

Hmm who's going to be the first to swap a TRDOR locked rear into their SR?

If I had an SR I'd rather swap an ARB into the stock rear rather than try to get the factory e locker to work properly.

What's so difficult about it in comparison? I've never taken a look at the locker or the wiring so I have no idea. I can tell you I've got 20 years of 12v electrical experience though and I'm certain I'd get it working perfectly. Would be nice to have the stronger rear also. I did a quick search and they seem very difficult to find with low miles or even at all. Really not many people parting these trucks out.

Yeah, they're tough to find. Easier to just throw an ARB and New set of gears in the rear you have.

Shame we didn't talk before I built mine. I would have swapped axles and done that so I could have matching ARBs front and rear.

I'd go with the ARB over factory. I've run several ARB's, and all have worked flawless, including their small air pump.
