Anyone have 4.88s on stock tires or +1 size (265/75/16 or 265/70/17)?

So I've spent like an hour reading through this entire thread... Really helpful so thanks to everyone contributing!

After reading through I still have a few questions:

    1. I'm getting a brand new pro next week. Putting on 33's right away (285 75 16). Should I wait to get to a few thousand miles to put on the 4.88 gears or should I do it right away? I'm just wondering if it's not smart to do it brand new.

    2. After the 500 mile oil change is there any other maintenance for the lifetime of the vehicle? Or is it permanent?

    3. Anyone know of a trustworthy shop in San Diego? Or a shop that will do same day or overnight in orange county out LA? Really nervous about the whining noise so want to find the right shop with fair pricing.

After being on the fence for a few days I'm totally sold on doing it!

They do not change the oil until 10,000 miles.

Are you lifting your PRO? If you put bigger tires on, then you need to lift it! Why buy a pro it's a waste of money.
Also, I think the pro has 17 inch mags.

Provided you a legitimate question-- Why are you interested in 4.88s on stock tires or +1 sized tires?

I'm interested due to my curiosity on how the gears would "feel" in terms of driving on stock sized or +1 tires. Is that alright with you?

Curiosity has little to no bearing on what I actually do or will do to my truck.

I thought I read a few separate times in this thread it was 500 for the gears?

No need to lift, plenty of guys are doing it just need a little bit of trimming.

Da fuq? It's 10k miles for first oil change homey. You can use your first one early if you want but toyota only provides the first two for free. Follow the manual it will tell you what the service intervals are. There is no real good proven reason to do it any earlier than the 10k Mile point unless you're using your truck in an unorthodox way.

Can anyone recommend a good gear installer in the Orange county Ca. area? I know we have alot of offroad shops but are they the best guys for this job? I would rather go to gearing specific shop. Will be doing the Nittro 4,88 on a 4x4 sport auto. :curls:

Still wondering if it's worth it to do it on a new truck or if that's sketchy / not worth it... Any mechanics or someone with gear experience?

After you install NEW gears you need to drive it easy and short intervals till 500 miles.
Then, you change the differential oil.
After that change every 25-30k. That's it.

Not in orange but in Hawthorne had these guys help me with rebuilding rear end on my muscle car. They have a good reputation for knowing their stuff when it comes to gear work.
