Front suspension : Extended travel Kings with Total Chaos UCAS Rear suspension : Deaver progressive AAL w/out overload & Kings Rims : SCS SR8 17" Tires : Bfg KO2s 285/70/R17 ARB Compressor ARB Lockers front and rear with 4.88 gears Nitro 4.88 Gears TRD Pro Grill, and fogs Headlight BHLM Rigid Radiance 32 stealth mounted.
Well since the majority of tacoma owners run 285s 4.88 is not that great for them, if nitro made 4.30s for auto and 4.56 s for manuals they would get a lot more sales IMO

    Always in process
4.30 gear sets from Toyota are $1,450 msrp which is competitive with Nitro so no real reason for them to compete withe Toyota on that front IMO.

41201-79535 Gear kit, rear diff 4.30
41201-79485 Gear kit, front diff 4.300

But that being said I'd still lean towards 4.88 with a 33" tire to compensate for the added rotational inertia and weight

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
I still really need to pull this trigger and order some 4.88s just need to find a really reliable installer. I could do it, but I don't have all the tools to do it right and I would rather not half ass it.

Well you taught me something new, but I still need my 4.56s for my manual taco

    I come up with;
    V6 Auto
    3.93(stock)30.6"/265-70-16/265-65-17
    4.10-31.6"/265-75-16/265-70-17
    4.56-32.8"/285-75-16/285-70-17
    4.56-35"

    V6 Manual
    4.30(stock)30.6"/265-70-16/265-65-17
    4.56-31.6"/265-75-16/265-70-17
    4.88-32.8"/285-75-16/285-70-17
    4.88-35"

But, considering the higher RPMs the manual runs at(+300rpm @ 70mph-4th gear and +550rpm @ 70mph-6th gear), you could probably go an additional size up on the auto gears.

How did you come up with the same 4.88 gearing for 285/70/R17 at 32.7" and 315/70R17 34.4"
Everytime I run the numbers through the calculator, at 70 mph the 4.56 is the closest RPMs to stock gearing on 285s...
Here is the calculator I'm using http://www.accuautoparts.com/calculator.php

With 3500mi, you should be fine with a mini kit that is $875 shipped.

I bet that after you put in the 4.88s you'll want 5.13s.
Between 456s and 488's, really it's like splitting hairs.
I just want to shifting to stop !!!

As far as gas mileage goes. If you're not hunting for gears constantly, it has to get better.

I have 35s so I need the 4.88s I couldn't see myself with 5.13s or even finding a reason to justify them personally.

    I used the same calculator.
You're right; it is the closest with about -25rpm(6th) to -35rpm(4th) at 70 mph.
    4.88 would only be about +150rpm(6th) to +200rpm(4th) @ 70 mph.
Less reason for a manual to match; no torque converter to keep happy.

    Nothing yet....im a poor bastard.
Alright....I will go ahead and ask. Im not a mechanic.
What gears come in the truck?
What is the purpose of changing the gears?
    Where are these gears located?
Can a weekend warrior change them?
