Karts don't have suspension. that's what makes them karts.

Oh and brake rotors and pads aren't suspension mods, nor do your numbers add up to $10k. Hopefully, you do better at Baja than accounting school.

I have an A in accounting, and as I said I may have rounded up a little, but I also probably forgot a few things, as well as not accounting for driveshaft balancing, front end alignments, and other little things like that. The point wasn't how much money I spent anyway, that was just a qualifier, the point was that I have quality parts on my truck and clever tuning so the result is a better handling finished product. That's really all I was getting at, as well as the fact that having a better handling car equates to having a faster car on a track, and that straight line speed is highly overrated in terms of actually being a fast vehicle. Any idiot can make something have more power and mash the pedal to prove it, suspension tuning is more valuable is all I'm saying

That has nothing to do with the other poster asking if the gearing is different between his OR and Pro because his Pro feels faster.

Thanks for telling us all about your credentials and racing parts for your Baja build. We're all very impressed.

BTW, why the DSC Fox shocks and not a proper bypass if you're planning on racing in the Baja 1000?

Class requirements for 7300 class are stock style shock mounting points, reinforcements are allowed but bypass shocks are not, and long travel suspension is not. If I were building a trophy truck then that would be a different story but I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend so I'm going for a more factory-tuned class rather than a full out race truck class. That being said I opted for the absolute best shocks allowed in that category

And I was stating all that because I was implying that better suspension would be the only difference between a pro and a TRD sport (if there is any in speed, which I don't think there would be) because they all get the same gear ratio based on whether they are auto or manual, or 4 banger vs V6 but not based on trim level

LOL. No a 6" procomp lift is not making your truck faster, nor is the extra weight from your bumper. The regear might, but not enough to overcome the other mods. There's a HUGE difference between a 6" procomp lift and a 2.5" lift with tuned suspension

Throwing money at a truck isn't what makes it faster either, again I only threw out those numbers to show the quality of parts and it was rounded anyway. As others have pointed out I 'only' installed about 8200 in parts. It's not the money that is the point, it's the fact that one is mainly for looks, the other from a reputable company with an established and rich Motorsports history across many different disciplines. AKA one is race oriented, another Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements (that's RICE for short ;))

Shit I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis (I'm guessing not as severe as yours) and just thinking of a 1000 high speed desert miles makes my back hurt!

So a quick question. If I go to ECGS, i can price out the assembled front diff for $900 and an assembled 3rd member for $800 (not including core charge or shipping). Is that essentially saying that I can spend $1700 and a weekend installing stuff to regear my car?

I'd love to run 4.88s and after reading 41 pages of discussion, I wonder if going with ECGS and slapping on the parts is cost comparable to buying gears and having a shop install. I've swapped out the 3rd member before but haven't really worked on swapping out the front diff.

Kind of.. if you're comparing apples to apples, the ECGS 3rd and clam would cost a bit more. The $1700 Nitro package, which really sells for way less than $1700 includes master kits which ECGS charges $200 for up front, I don't see the 8.75 rear listed on their site, but that master kit is expensive too, I'd figure on $350 in the rear for a master kit.

Maybe I was pricing it out wrong, I am assuming ECGS wasn't including master kits. The gears without Master kits are about $900 from Nitro, which would make the rebuild labor $800. That's about right for regearing loose diffs. I have an offroad shop in NJ and that's about what we would charge.

Sorry I didn't write a more complete answer, I'm about to hit the sack over here. Feel free to PM me if I can help you at all. I know a thing or two about Toyota diffs.

You're not wrong, hence my attention to detail with suspension tuning, and also a set of corbeau Baja xrs suspension seats will help. I started rigorously working out soon after being diagnosed and have progressively improved symptomatically as the strength in my lower back has improved. Regardless, I've never let a little pain stop me, racing in the Baja is something I've dreamt of since I was young watching guys do it on TV, it would be an honor to participate and hopefully by that time my truck will be prepared in such a way to allow me to do well in the event. Following quite literally in the tracks of off-road racing legends would be more than enough for me, but maybe if I keep refining my truck and improving it bit by bit I will get it to the point where I could win the 7300 class while I'm at it.

^^^ Awesome! Doctor tried to tell me I should get a couple vertebrae fused - screw that. Got in better shape and that helped a ton. Good luck as you work towards the Baja! Your truck is looking sweet.

Yeah my doctor said that was the only option for 'treatment' but that it was more of a risk that I wouldn't be able to bend over and stuff anymore than it's worth, and that if I lost some weight and gained some back muscles I would be good to go, which has been more or less true

    FYI
I put in a order with ecgs a while back for F/R 4:88 gears, clamshell with an Arb locker but had to cancell.
They do not currently have front clamshells for the 2016 + in stock.
Not in a hurry so I'll wait it out.
