No, I haven't had a response on this. Want to proceed but not sure where to go considering price and location.

    They should not.

I just finished up with the 500 mile break in period East Coast Gear Supply recommends on their gear installs. So far, even though I haven't been able to get on
it, or take it off road, the benefit is very noticeable. Taking off from a stop the truck feels like it wants to jump, where previously, it was really sluggish. It does much
better around town driving, on the highway, and I've picked up a small gain in fuel mileage.

Hope to take it this week to Uwharrie National Forest after work one evening to see how it does off road .

Anyone with a 6MT running 35's with 4.88's yet? I'm going this route in August and would like some feedback.

I'm on 33's now with some extra weight due to bumper, winch, RTT, and bed rack. Highway travel on the 4.30's sucks moldy badger balls.

doesn't change much going to 4.88 and 33s about 175 rpms different on highway speeds. IMO its worth it for the torque added.

I'm about 250miles in on my break in.

Mine are very quiet on the highway, but my 2.7L, 5-Speed is way too low geared even with 35's. At 75mph I'm at almost 3 grand in 5th. Love the low end power, but it still accelerates like a 2.7L, pulls the hills great though.

I guess it's time to really impress the bros and slap some 37's on there. I bet pops wouldn't mind you using his credit card for them so you can be stunting around those Walmart meets.

I think I'm confused reading all 42 pages. But here goes nothing. I have a 16 Tacoma 4x4 sr5 AT it is 6" bds lifted with 33x12.50 toyo mt and fuel 20" wheels. I live in Florida, i drive approximately 40 miles to and from work and extra for weekend trips to the beach or where ever. So if i read this right the ideal gear to change over to are "4.88"? and I'm assuming the front and rear have both 8" diffs? I have no shop in my area that knows anything about the new Tacomas so im relying on this page too give me accurate info.

@J2L4U You have 8" diffs if you do not have the locking rear diff or 6MT on a 3rd gen. Based on your info above you should have 8". 4:88 will be good with your 33's. You may want to consider adding a locking or limited slip differential while paying labor for ring and pinion change.

Lots and lots of threads on this. For Florida, except for deep mud use, I would use an Eaton Detroit TRUTRAC. YMMV.

Got my truck back yesterday and doing the break in. Currently doing a lot better on mileage considering I was getting 12.5 mpgs on 35s. 488s worth it so far

forgive the ignorant question but would this gearing swap solve the terrible reverse gear on the 6MT? that is my only beef with my truck. backing up a trailer on even the slightest incline tends to lead to a burning clutch smell. If I missed this answer somewhere in this thread, just let me know what page to look on!
