FN wheels' version of the TRD Pro 4Runner, TRD Pro front skid plate, Low Range Offroad 3/1 lift, JBA Offroad upper control arms, TRD Pro Shift knob, OV Tuned, 4.88s, 285/70/17 BFG KO2s

I am not sure why they wouldn't tell you this. I talked with Drew extensively about the issues I had. They sent me some front carrier bearings to "make things right" But they should be informing folks with the non e locker 8 inch rear about the carrier bearings. You can get the bearings, but you are going to wait about 2 weeks while the dealer sources them from a central distribution warehouse in Kentucky. As far as the hum goes, I had a slight one on the 64 mile ride I had this morning. But after about 45 miles or so, it seemed to go away. I think it's prolly just part of the breaking in process.

As of now, I went from 20.5-21.5 mpgs in stock form with stock tires

16.5-17 mpg with the lift and 285-70-17s

18.5-19.5 with the lift, tires, and gears.

I am going to reset the ECM this afternoon in an attempt to force the trans to relearn the shift points. Overall, I would rate this experience with Nitro 4.88s for my truck a 6 out of 10 as far as satisfaction with the regear. If I had to do it all over again, I'd patiently wait until another manufacturer released gearsets and proper Master Install Kits (YUKON...) Also, IMO 4.88s are too deep. 4.56s would be the puuuuuurfect gear for this truck with 33s.

I will tell you right now though, even though I was sent the front carrier bearings for free, I was not happy about having to "make it work" Even though my mechanic can make miracles happen I was not happy about having to hack the rear diff housing in order to fit the 3rd member in. In the future, I will prolly be sourcing a 8.75 e locker version for my truck and re-gearing that instead of screwing with this convoluted 8 inch rear again!

    It'd be great to have a choice of 4.56 or 4.88, but I love my 4.88s with a 33" tire (285/70R17).

I didn't have any bearing issues, but I have the 8.75 rear.

No problem. I try to share knowledge whenever I know for a fact it will help someone else out. My suggestion to you would be to go ahead and obtain the proper bearings from Toyota of Dallas. The part number needed for the rear carrier bearings for the non e-locker 8 inch is 90366-T0010. You will need to inform them, "I know you don't have it in stock, can you look at the distro center in Kentucky?" They had like 46 of them prior to me ordering mine. They are about $56 for the pair.

I drive my Tacoma like an ass, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I also have a RTT and a few hundred lbs of gear in the back, which will cause a milage hit as well.

That being said, I get 17ish overall. You could probably get low 20s if you drove like a grandma, but I've never tried.

Update!!! So after following priper break in procedure, I started getting a whining/humming noise on acceleration under part throttle. I immediately toom it to the shop when this started. My mechanic pulled the 3rd and verfied it was still set up properly. He toomk it all back a part and set the gears up again. It is still humming. I contacted Nitro once more. They informed me I would have to ship the gears to them for inspection in order to determine if a warranty can be given. Any person who uses some common sense knows that would put my truck down for over a week while I shipped from AL to WA, waited on inspection, and then if they can't be warrantied I gotta pay for new gears to be shipped anyways. I am just going to ride these until new gears come (on my $$$) I'm driving to Savannah, GA tomorrow (300 miles) so let's hope it stays together for the next 2 weeks and the 300 mile trip home. I did score the proper bearings (waiting on them to ship). So when the new gearset gets here and the new bearings get here, I see no reason why everything shouldn't go back together witbout issue. Just to be clear, I DID follow proper break in procedure and my mechanic DID set up the gears properly. So I am not sure WTF happened. This is very frustrating!!

Check Out My Build Thread :)
Seeing as you have a sport like mentioned above I'm going to assumer its due to the bearings they provide in their master kit not being the correct ones... at least now you have the correct ones though... I just hope Nitro stands by their mistake and corrects the issue with all future kits... I have a sport as well and plan on re-gearing next summer which will hopefully be more than enough time for them to have TWO master kits one for the SPORTS and one for the OR... keep us posted on your updates!

Called nitro. They confirmed that they did send the wrong parts for the 8" rear dif. His advice was "don't install that part" but I had already installed and used it. Called them to let them know I was having issues. They tried to sell me more parts. And that was months ago. I'm glad I found this thread. I disputed the charge on my Amex. I already had to replace the rear dif once. this will be the second time. I think I'm gonna scrap nitro and go to a different manufacturer altogether.

If you make a mistake as a company. Fess up and take care of it. Don't be rude and don't make excuses. It's bad business. I hope people find this thread before they purchase and it can help to not have issues in the future

    Basic overland stuff...
Nitro's here and no issues. Humming is most likely improper setup regardless of what the "installer" says. Also I believe Nitro is your only option.

No, only company that makes gears for TRD OR is Nitro. If he tells you different he hasn't done his research and doesn't know the diffs are different size for our models

Mine is the sr5 8". Not trying to sound like a penis head but that didn't answer my question.

Why won't he just use east coast gear supply? They are reputable
