Not sure. I got faith in him, just never heard of those gears i just wanted to see if anyone had any review on them. If his shop didn't have really good reputation i would be more worried. I even asked him about nitro gears and he said these are better. Fingers crossed lol

Is it true the automatic sport owners can go with 2nd gen gears due to the sports having the 8" housing? I was told that was an option verses going with nitro and "hoping" to get the correct bearings for the 8" housing verses the 8.75" housing for the OR's

Mmm, I in no way followed break in procedures with my Nitro 8.75 4.88's. Towed right off the bat, went on a road trip, stayed at a constant 70mph for hours at a time, still haven't changed he initial fluid, over 2,500 miles on the oil and gears. Reused all old bearing and seals and crush sleeve, and my rear end is 100% silent and smooth. I did however use amsoil 80w90, and took it to rearend specialties. All they do is rearends, I never have to worry about their work.

What RPM do you sit at at 75? Trying to figure if a auto or manual will be better for what I want to do.

Can someone tell me if the mini kit comes the nitro solid preload spacers? If no, is it recommended?

According to nitro, it says that "Solid Preload spacer replaces stock type crush sleeve improving bearing preload retention, eliminating possible crush sleeve damage if the yoke is impacted offroad and allows the pinion seal to be serviced without complete disassembly of the differential to replace a crush sleeve and reset pinion bearing preload."

I only have 6k on my truck. Should i get just the mini kit or the package kit?

I'm new at this. Any reccomend shop in Sacramento CA?

I would stay away from off road shops, unless they have a good reputation for gear installs. Most of the times Drive Shaft Shops or Transmission shops will have a lot of experience setting up gears. I'm spoiled and have Rearend Specialties less than an hour away.

There isn't really a need to replace anything with such low miles. If it makes you feel better, at the most new crush sleeve, pinion nut and pinion seal.

what is the stock ratio? Does TW have a thread that shows what gearing comes stock on what taco? how much did it cost to bench the 3rd member and get new gears installed?

I wonder if the crushsleve is yielding, on the stock rear axle, and if that is the culprit for the howling rear end after some time goes by. Perhaps a heat cycle issue.

That should be an easy fix then. I wonder why Toyota is not fixing it.

The stock crush sleeve is pretty stout. There was a thread on Pirate4x4 that showed that a Snap-On Impact couldn't crush it, and they had to do it on a press. That being said I've reused Toyota crush sleeves many times with no failures, and running big tires.

Doubt they have the techs to perform the work, from what I read Toyota is just replacing the diffs.

I understand. Do you think heat cycling could change the characteristics on the crush sleeves. I imagine it would take a good bit if heat or poor quality metal.
