Please keep us posted, and, if you will, can you try to provoke a rear end howl? I am curious if the gear change eliminates the howl.

Hopefully i can hear a noise. The toyo mts hum pretty good on the highway. The shop im taking mine to he told me he is using some "high end" gears so he is pretty confident there won't be a noise. But I'll deff give a good review

What does he mean by High End gears? What are the Low End gears available out on the market?

Bud i have no idea I'm only quoting the place that's installing them. I'm guessing the metal quality your guess is as good as mine.

That's exciting. What made you want to re-gear? What size tire did you go with? Thanks!

I went with the 33x12.50 20s toyo mt. I just felt after driving back and forth to work filling my truck up every 3 days it was a must. Hopefully i made the right choice on 4.88s.

15 miles in no extra noise. It has given it extra response but nothing ti jump for joy. 5th gear at 70 about 2300 rpms 6th was at 1900ish. Gas mileage hasn't changed much. Hypertech calibrator seems too not need to be messed with per gps speedo but i will play with it when i get home

Did you bring them the gears, or did they supply them?
    What gears/Ratio DID you order?
    What does your receipt say?

The gears have been on order for a while I've bugged them about making sure they was 488. So right off the git go i really didn't notice a big difference so when i got home they put my old gears inside the box from my new ones. I seen 456 on the box so i looked on my receipt it said 456 but the guy who owns the shop swears that they put 488 in my truck that they had 456 ordered for another guys Tacoma. I'm really in freaked out mode right now. I just know even if they are both 456 they shouldn't pop vibrate and roar that bad. And the gears he went with is yukon

I done that gear check with the tire and drive shaft. It seems to be accurate. It's calculating 456

I would take it back. If he says they installed 488's they could have mixed them which is why they front could be so loud from them binding

He claimed when i called him that he looked around and only found the other 456 box that the rear came in and didn't have any boxes for 488s. But that noise is only loud when the 4wd is engaged and I've never noticed loud pops and the truck jerking that bad before
