Yes, and they'll also shut off when you turn on the high beams to keep it legal. Although I think 99.99% of us love extra switches.

If he runs off the low beams for the relay trigger, they'll stay on with the high beams since the low beams stay on. I had no idea it was illegal to run fogs with high beams on, interesting and strange IMO.

Ah, good point I forgot about yeah. It's illegal in NJ, but everything is. But yes, when you buy a new car w/ fog lights they'll always shut off w/ the high beams.

LED’s in the stock halogen housings is a big no go unless you enjoy blinding other people and not increasing your visibility:rolleyes: short answer, yes your car will blow up. Don’t do it. Buy complete aftermarket LED fog lights.

It’s illegal in every state I’ve ever researched for good reason, if you need fog lights then high beams would be counterproductive anyway and there’s a DOT maximum for light output and total number of lights.

Every state agrees to the DOT standards to participate in the federal highway fund therefore anything that’s DOT mandated is by definition under state code.

Don’t believe me? Look up your state codes and prove me wrong... I’m a LEO so I’d love for you to find me info that conflicts with this national standard. Everything you install on a vehicle for on highway use must be “DOT approved” and that doesn’t mean some chineasium which claims it in the eBay listing, the DOT files are open public records and if your lights are not approved then they are illegal.

P.S. those of you with “off-road use only” light bars will be getting a visit from me in the very near future if they aren’t covered up on the highway. The public is sick and tired of getting blinded by your lights and they call us frequently to report you. We can impound the vehicle at the roadside if you want to argue, we’ve revoked the inspection station license of hundreds of locations around the state this year for placing stickers on cars and trucks with illegal modifications and equipment.

Check the amp loads being pulled on the wires you're running, always.

My 9" round LED's are covered but my rigid ditch lights aren't. And even when my round LED's weren't covered the cops were busy doing cop stuff and never bothered me. I agree, it's stupid to drive w/ them on while on a public road though. But if I was to get stopped for having them uncovered I'd lose respect for the 5-0 that stopped me. There's pressing issues that need to be addressed out there and my truck isn't one of them. Maybe different where you live..

You’re not getting stopped for having 10k lumens on while driving down a highway, if I inadvertently noticed this on another stop I’d discuss the situation with the driver (and record the inspection sticker information in our database) but as long as they aren’t the initial reason for the stop and/or they aren’t in use it’s not a pressing issue.

Our problem is the morons driving around lit up like a Christmas tree and blinding everyone, just because you’re not using them right now doesn’t mean that you weren’t using them 2 minutes ago or have the possibility to use them the second I pull away. This is why we have the blackout cover law here in my state, if they are uncovered on the highway you’re going to get cited.

I’m not sure how much more blatant and obvious I can get when I state that I’m in YOUR STATE, Pennsylvania. The one listed in your profile as your home state. Pennsylvania Code was the linked reference material so if that’s not obvious enough I’ll be pulling you over shortly to issue a citation

Remember that part I said earlier about not arguing because I can impound your vehicle?

See, the state code is quite ambiguous and gives leeway to both you and me by stating there is a 150,000 total candlepower, with a maximum of 4 concurrently illuminated lights.

See that maximum? That’s total candlepower and if you’re over it with equipment you’re going to have a really bad day with me because you’re already coming off as someone that has a problem with law enforcement and you’re going to try and argue the state code at the roadside ... that means I’m calling a tow truck to impound your vehicle and you’re walking home.

I’m here to provide protection and prevent unsafe vehicles from killing or injuring others, if you’re driving around with over 150k candlepower of lights on your truck then you’re posing a danger to others on the highway. I’ll stop you and my first interaction is what dictates the entire encounter, you want to act like and asshole I’ll be more than happy to tow your truck from the scene and you can fight it out with the local judge whenever we eventually go to court.

If you aren’t a dick, I won’t be a dick. Show respect, get respect.

That badge doesn’t mean squat if you aren’t standing behind it’s values. You may run into someone who doesn’t give a crap about your uniform or badge, stay smart and stay safe.
