Hey fellas,... I'm about to buy an Axxess Metra TY02 adapter, but want to double check with you guys to make sure it'll work with my deck.

I'm not sure how you determine whether or not your deck is a JBL. I've got a 07 Taco with the 6 cd-changer (built into the deck - not external). The last button on the right side is a 'Text' button.

I assume it's a JBL, but I want to make sure (and that the adapter will work with this deck) before I order it.

    Thanks

if its a JBL, it will have a sticker on it with the JBL logo. also, i think the speakers in the door might also have JBL on them. both the JBL and non-JBL have 6 disc changer options. and I don't think it matters anyway, same kit works for both i believe

Thanks mooserjjx. I couldn't find a JBL logo anywhere on the deck (I didn't look at the speakers), so then I guess it's not a JBL deck.

I'll have to go back and read through this thread again, but I thought that there were a few guys having issues with the Metra adapter and the JBL deck - although in some cases it sounds like the adapter itself may have been no good.

    Cheers

I installed the TY02 adapter this morning and love it! The Sirius sounds MUCH better than via FM modulation - and having the ability to use my iPod in the truck now is sweet!

The install took me 30 minutes. Most of the time was spent feeding the cables to where I needed them. Wish I had smaller hands!

One complaint though... when running it from CD1 (the adapter), the audio is definitely quieter than normal. No big deal... just turn it up. But if you switch back to FM radio or a CD, then it's significantly louder. You definitely have to remember to turn the audio down before switching to something other than the adapter - otherwise you'll get a loud blast of volume!

Just a note... one thing I found to help boost the volume from my Sirius (running through the AUX on the adapter) was to turn off the FM Modulation on the Sirius itself. As soon as you turn the FM modulation off, it gets quite a bit louder.

Another note, it is possible to use both the iPod and the AUX at the same time (why you'd want to is beyond me though...).

I've attached a pic (sorry for the quality... it's from my shoe phone). The iPod cable is in the tray to the right of the steering wheel (to the left of the Sirius).

Do all the available adaptors have the same low volume issues?

I am not 100% sure because there are so many of them any more, but to the best of my knowledge I believe they are all somewhat quiet. It's not that big of a deal, just turn it up. Sooo much better than FM modulators...

For anyone wondering about other brands of adapters:

I went with the Blitz Safe adapter a few months back and haven't had any problems. It has a reasonable volume and works great with mp3's on my phone.

BTW... how awesome does the opening scene from Ironman sound on the Taco stereo!! I just hooked the laptop up to the adapter while the wife and I were traveling on vacation; I was blown away, it sounded like being at the theater!!

    Jebus-
Are you using the stock sat antenna or did you use the sirius antenna that came with your unit?
Are you using the aux input jack or were you able to connect to the rear of the HU.
I have a sirius sportster and I dont want to pay for another HU or a couple hundred in Toy parts to get what I already have. I would like to use the factory antenna and rear aux input to make everything nice and tidy like you have.
    Thanks:cool:

I'm using the antenna that came with the Sirius Starmate (or it may be a second one that I had purchased to use as a 'mobile' antenna - but I think I had installed the one that came with the receiver). I ran it through the Taco cabin and out the brake light at the top of the cabin.

I've got the Starmate connected to the TY02 adapter with a 3.5mm 'dubbing' cable (has 3.5mm plugs on both ends). One end goes into the 'Audio Out' on the Starmate and the other end went into the 'Aux In' on the TY02 adapter.

Unfortunately with my '07 Taco I don't have a factory antenna in the truck and the HU doesn't have an 'Aux In' - hence the reason for the TY02 adapter. So I can't really help you out there... but I can't see why you wouldn't be able to run a 3.5mm dubbing cable from your Sirius receiver to the Aux In on your HU...

Right now all my connections are outbooard, I'm usingh the sirius starmate ant sitting on top of my dash, the aux input jack which is below the A/C controls and the 12v access plug. It's a mess, I would like to hardwire the power which is no big deal, use the Toy factory supplied Sat antenna which I'm not sure I can, and tie into an aux input behind the HU. Keeping all the wires behind the dash as you have and surface mounting the sirius controller.
If I can use the aux inpput behind the HU do you or anyone else if I loose the capability of also connecting my Ipod/Itouch?
    Thanks

Unfortunately I haven't seen the '09s, so I can't really comment on how you would go about setting that up. I have no idea if there's a way to tie into the Aux In on the back of the HU. I would think there would be, but it may involve splicing into some of the wires running into the HU - unless there's a Aux In jack in the back of the HU as well.

    Thanks Jebus-
I'll continue to look around and see what I can find, I've read thru the thread and although the 09's are mentioned here and there most aftermarket adapters dont list them so I would guess that those of us that have 09 are buying the Ipod adapters based on the fact that they work on the 08's?

Where can you buy the Metra AIPTY02ID now? I have seen that most people are buying it from Circuit City but they went out of business. I have a 2007 Tacoma with the non JBL 6 disc changer. Any info would be appreciated.
I was also told by a guy at metraonline.com that the metra AIP-TY02-ID is not compatible with the Factory Tacoma 6 disc radio. Is this correct or does it work. From what I have read it seems to be working for people with the same config.

Keep an eye on Ebay. I bought mine as a new, but returned product from a fella - kind of a gamble I guess - but it works just fine with my non-JBL factory 6 disc stereo (07 as well) - and I only payed $0.99 for it! lol

I know... I actually felt bad, so I offered to give him a little extra for shipping. :) In his description he stated that it was a customer return, opened package, but was never installed. So I don't think anyone else bidded on it - assuming that it didn't work. I thought I might as well take a chance, and it ended up working out great for me!

Y0TA... I think it would depend on how you have the Sirius hooked up to the HU. Do you happen to know?

I'm not sure anymore. I'm going to pull the HU to find out. I'll get back with you.
