Was lucky. Disconnected the battery terminals, waited a few minutes, connected back up, and the light went away. So just a heads up on that.

I'm gonna have re-edit my write up, warning about the airbag light.

Custom body work...boat trailer came of hitch, hit tailgate and Rammed stick thru lower valance while towing boat....hmmm, Maybe I should get a new boat?!?
Thanks for the advice! Can an OBDII scanner tool clear it?

    I plan disconnecting battery?

That I'm not sure of, cause I haven't used an OBD2 device before.

Ahh! I have a buddy/past client that's a service tech at the local subaru dealer, he's the one that diagnosed my P1098 code...he tried to clear it yesterday, but it wouldn't clear? I'm assuming because the issue wasn't fixed?

I'll have him clear it after the clock spring is replaced...hopefully!?

Oh so your airbag light is on?

Most likely it's the clock spring.

Ok, I need to pick your brain. Why can't anybody that does these mods live in Canada?! lol, guess I'll be the first and start spreading the love afterwards. So first is if I already have steering wheel audio controls on my 08 there are 2 questions from here...
1)should the blue logic be pre-wired on the right side as there is a set of Blanks where it would be? I don't want to mess with the clock spring really but I've been in there before (I'll get to that in a moment) do you think its a simple matter of buying the blu logic controls and plugging them in behind the airbag similar to the other side? What other steps do you think there would be?
    2) my left side steering wheel audio controls function perfectly but don't light up (this is why I've been in there), while there I changed the LED's...no luck. any ideas on how to fix it, I've been told its likely a clipped wire or something.

any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

after reading your entire build thread im betting the ribbon wire and the blu logic controls are all I need. any thoughts? plus the lights for both sides I'm guessing won't work if thats the case and a wire was clipped somewhere, I already have a blu tooth deck.

I still regret not paying the extra $200 for the upgraded stereo with steering wheel audio controls at the time. Now it will cost more than $500 in parts to install it.

1.) If you already have the steering wheel audio control. All you need is the right side switch and the ribbon cable. You connect the ribbon cable to right side switch, then you connect the other end of the ribbon cable to the left side switch(refer to the pics above). Just to be on the safe side disconnect the battery terminals. You're not connecting anything to the CS.

2.) No idea on how to fix the lights on the switches. I haven't ran into that problem yet.

Yes that's all you need. You can always check the wires if any of them are damage.

    UPDATE:

I went ahead and replaced my clock (spiral) spring with the cheap Chinese knock-off (off ebay)...was very easy, technically (thanks for the great write-up once again!); however, my SRS light stayed on...I went by dealer to have cleared today and the P1098 code is gone, but a B1081 code reared it's ugly head...It's a grounding issue, so either a) part is bad or b) one of the clips is not grounded properly (I'm betting on 'a' as the stereo controls in the steering wheel work fine...that and it's not my first time making electrical connections?) I'll keep you posted on the resolution?!

    Thanks,

    ~Brett

Once I get my 2014 Nav installed I'll be adding the Bluetooth pad on the right side of the steering wheel. Great write up and thanks for answering questions I had (without me even asking!). I have an 09 with steering wheel controls for volume / mode.

    Thanks again!

To each his own, but that is a very low bang-for-the-buck modification, unless your right arm got bit off by a shark.

If you're steering did not come with audio controls and the airbag covers it completely than you'll need to get the spiral cable.

Did some searching on this forum first. When Toyota came out with the spiral cable(clockspring) recall, there where 2 different part numbers regarding that particular part.

cool, thanks! i'm possibly thinking about putting in a 2012 with audio controls in my 2006 without audio controls, do you know how easily compatible that is? and are there any other threads around. I tried searching, and somehow stumbled on this one, i'm surprised more people haven't done this

2012 steering wheel with audio control in an 06?

Hmm never seen anyone ever done that before, so I can't really give you a definative answer on that.

Consider a few things though: Are the wiring the same between the older model year Tacoma and newer ones?

Is the plug from the audio control the same as the older style audio control?

Is there a new spiral cable(clockspring) being use compared to the older model year Tacoma?

lol, these are all questions I hope to find out when i start opening things up, I figured with the audio controls, since I don't even have it in my truck, it shoudn't be too hard to get one of those modules or interfaces and hook it up directly to my aftermarket deck
