I didn't get any gains from the eco block. In fact I think I lost mpg. I just sold it and I feel my car runs better without it. We'll see how the mpgs are

I had a ninja 250R. That was great MPG right there, but 3.5 gallon tank still made me stop every week for gas.

Did you disconnect your battery to reset your ECU? I noticed it made a difference on my truck.

I would think a tonneau is less efficient for MPGs.

your mileage will get worse as the temps go down, too......mix gets richer

I too have the Volant with ram air on my 2007. 18-20 mpg on everyday driving summer/fall/spring.....winter = 16 mpg for everyday driving.

sounds awesome when you get up to around 4000prm

I think it's negligible. With thhe new tacoma, toyota had some agreement that they had to offer a tonneau for milage standards so maybe it does something for aerodynamics.

Winter fuel mix has something to do with that as well. More ethanol I think. But you're right about colder air causing increased fuel burn. Which theoretically could increase power but will hurt mpgs
I have seen a few guys here that have disconnected the intake tube on OEM intake essentially making a warm air intake with some gains in the winter.

It makes sense that it would improve some, but you also lose that aerodynamic vortex thing that is proven to increase MPGs.

So I wonder if it really amounts more to just adding weight, it's more streamlined but maybe less aerodynamic. MPG gained in one hand and taken away in the other.

Realistically to gain MPG on our trucks you'd. Need to shed weight somehow. Get skinnier tires. Front air dam. And drive like my grandma.

I agree this makes sense. The aerodynamics testing is likely a multi million dollar r and d for Toyota. So not much we can do to make it better

You're in a warm climate. 2WD. Lift? Tire size? Highway alot or mostly city? I can get 18...On the highway. 15 around town.

both, PreRunner on stock 265/70/16 Michelins.... No lift. City I drive with heavy acceleration, and highway 75-85mph.

one thing i have learned over the years, older cars, especially speed density cas (cars with a MAP sensor and NO MAF) generally respond to a CAI better. and the older cars have such loose fuel maps there is room to introduce more air.

newer cars are so finicky, unless you augment the CAI with a reflash, you are pissing in the wind.

Because no one would buy them if they were honest and said "don't gain any horsepower and decrease your fuel efficiency"

    Yup

    Here

    http://www.fuelly.com/driver/xaks

I've got about 120,000 miles logged on 3 2006-2008 base 4 cyl 5-speeds. Daily driver, medium lifting, drive 65-70MPH on the highway...those mileages are per tank at fillup

You CAN get good mileage and drive it like a truck. You just have to go into it with that in mind from the start and NOT lift it, put bigfoot tires on it, drive an automatic, etc

Take it easy on the gas pedal. I have the 2.7L and almost never drop below 20 mpg in Winter. With the warm temps and summer fuel I'm regularly logging 23+ mpg. I've been tracking my MPG since I bought the truck last year and it is all logged in Fuelly. See my signature below.

Im still on the first page so idk if this was explained yet.

the intake allows more air into the throttle. the injctors spray more fuel into the cylinders to compensate for the extra air to keep you from running too lean. look up the stoichiometric ratio if you want to know more.

better fuel economy for an intake upgrade is a joke. its a s sales pitch. you don't get any power either, your intake may be a little noisier and it makes you think its quicker... but its not, and your sure as shit not going to gain any mpg's

research stuff, know how it all works, before you buy it
