Installing 3rd gen trd off road suspension in second gen reg cab 4x4

    Wow thanks for all the info. I actually located a TRD pro suspension in CA that I’m going to try and have shipped here, I’m just waiting on the dudes word weather or not he wants to part with it (he doesn’t know if he wants to sell it or not) and I have a TRD OR suspension that will be available in September. That’s my backup plan. Im probably going to get a OME leaf pack too. I figured that along with the sumo springs or airbags would be a good mix for hauling. Money is tight right now, at least until I get out of real estate school so I really have to do this as inexpensively as possible. I’m also on the hunt for new seats because of how much my current seat foam has deteriorated and started slanting to one side. If I did t have all of these problems all at once I would probably just get a new suspension entirely rather than looking for take offs.

    I just put 3rd gen (non-TRD) leaves and nothing else in my 2013 and it picked the back up at least three inches over my sagging stock leaves. Can confirm the install was cake, did it in 90 minutes with hand tools and some help from my brother. Its worth mentioning they were beyond flat and actually inverted so its hard to say how much of a gain over stock that is. I'm actually looking for a way to lower the back again because now I have to hop to get into the seat when before I could just sit right down. I saw something a while back about XJ shackles fitting our trucks or something but I'm having a hard time finding that info.

    For reference I have the OME Med leaf pack and 6112's on the front 5/4 clip settings. I didn't measure the amount it raised the rear (or the front for that matter lol) compared to the OEM 2015 leaf springs but judging off past posts I think its around 1.5" over stock. I still have a little rake, but nothing crazy. With a dirt bike and gear in the back (350lbs-ish total) it basically goes to level. Luckily you can often find used leaf springs on the classifieds page here for less than new. If you can get that TRD PRO setup, that would be the bees knees! Usually those go for about $1000-$1200 used FYI.

    If you end up with aftermarket leaf springs there are 2 options to level the truck out if the rake is too extreme. Remove an overload leaf from the leaf spring or add a lift spacer in front. Just an FYI going with lifted leaf springs in the rear. Pay attention to the fully extended length of the shock when installing the leaf springs when its on the jacks and after it is on the ground (and driven around to settle). The factory shocks (and standard Bilstein 5100's) are just shy of 23" fully extended. You will have a rough ride if it's only an inch or two away from full extension since there won't be much down travel when the suspension drops into a pot hole or something like that. They have shock extenders that can help with that, they just thread on the top of the shock where it mounts to the frame. They are very common in the Jeep community as well.

    Heres a picture of my truck with the 3rd gen suspension (before) vs the 6112's (5/4 clip setting), OME Dakar Med leaf springs and Bilstein B110 5100's (extended length) in the rear (after).
