I put a set of 5100's on my truck, 2.5in front, 2in aal rear. Alignment was good and no weird vibrations, ride is also good on stock coils.

billies @ 2.5 and longer springs....might be asking for trouble with that set-up,i think with new "eibachs",they only recommend .85 max, same may be true for "ome",(next clip up from stock height)imho,if you jack the billies up to max(2.5),and add a longer, stiffer spring, you're gonna be up for some serious issues with your front suspension, alignment and driveline...even if it did work out for you as far as ride height is concerned,i don't think you'd be happy with ride quaility with the billies maxed out.not trying to poop on anyone's thread, but there are other ways...jus sayin'.....i'm on 5100's set @.85 with stock coils and 4 leaf(tsb)springs,my truck retained the factory rake..at .85 you actually get more than that in actual lift..good thing too, cause the rear"tsb" pack brought my rear up pretty good, and after a year it hasn't settled

Ive got my bilsteins at 1.75 with a 1.5 inch aal and love it. Check out my build to see some pictures if you want. If you go 2.5 on the bilsteins you could either go with a 1.5 inch aal or 2 inch. (By the way, I got some vibrations around 40 mph after lift) You could also upgrade to eibach coils and set the bilsteins at .85 which would give you around 2.4 inches of lift.

By longer springs I meant the Eibach.. I thought they were a bit longer than stock... maybe im wrong? My 5100s came with Eibach coils and I had them set to 1.75. Ride is great no vibrations. this is the lift I got :

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Bilstein-Adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks_p_132.html

I know some guys use the stock coils but it has to ride like shit compared to the upgraded coils.

Just for reference, theres a world of difference in recommended settings for the 5100's & aftermarket coils in regards to 1st gens & 2nd gens, I think for 2nd gens & Eibach/Toytec & OME's coils are set as mentioned , for 1st gens you set the 5100's at zero (bottom clip setting/stock) for either coil, they do the lifting so no real preload is necessary

mainewoodsballer..not tryin' to start a "pissin' contest",but look at toytek's info..they recommend the .85 setting with the eibachs(which is the second clip)before we go head to head on this issue, maybe we should both review the info provided as it pretains to spring rate, height(stock trd,offroad,sr5,single/dbl cab, extended)if toytek set yours @ 1.75 with eibachs, then they went against their recommendation...imho more lift is actually acheived throughout the adjustment range on the 5100's(0,.85,1.75,2.5)than just the static number,it may be a minimal number, but i know i got more than .85" of lift on my set-up with stock springs, and no...my truck doesn't ride like crap.

Does anyone actually have a comparison on springs with the shock? I mean a useful one other than speculation?

No pissin contest needed. I honestly could care less. All I know is, that is the lift I have and its great. They did set mine at 1.75..I had them compress the coils right on the shock so I didnt have to do it myself. I received the whole coil over unit and could just drop it in..it was pretty simple.

I believe there is treads upon threads about using stock springs vs aftermarket ones for the 5100s..

Billies all around, 885's up front, 1.5" AAL in the rear ,Pro Comp 7032's wrapped in BFG AT 265/75/16, Locking rear cargo bins, interior LED's, Volant CAI with ram skewp, 5% back windows 20% tint up front, ImMrYo rear-view mirror mount, flowmaster 40 cut after axle drop, 886 reverse light mod, blacked out emblems, Grill Craft MX mesh upper and lower, UltraGauge, 10" JL sub behind drivers side rear seat
if you have budget, get some OME coils to go with the 5100's. The OME coils will provide the lift otherwise you are relying on the adjustable shock to provide the lift. If you want to stay cost efficient, re-use your stock coils for the time being and see how you like it. Some people say the ride is pretty stiff at 2.5" but it's really all personal preference. I set mine at 1.75" and am happy with it. Everyone will have their own opinion on here and will provide great advice and lot of help, but the only opinion that's gonna matter in the end is the guy driving the truck. just my 2 cents

Exactly. If you have the money it would be worth getting the coils in my opinion. It only costs a little more to go first class.

What Doug said. I had 5100's on my stock coils at 2.5" and the ride was pretty stiff due to the preload. I got OME 885x's and threw those on with the Bils set at 0 and it was a huge difference in ride. Much smoother. Also I got 2.5" out of the coils. Once you go that high though you gotta start thinking about UCA's as well. Some people have no issues with alignment that high, but I did. Just something to think about. Good luck
