Yes, I searched and didn't find anything. Yes, I'm a wimp and don't like driving a cold car.

I want to run the engine with the steering column locked to prevent theft. Two ideas come to mind- a simple toggle switch connecting B+ to the ignition circuit, or some kind of circuit that opens the shift selector solenoid. The first idea should be pretty easy, and if someone had a schematic from installing an aftermarket remote start, that should allow me to figure out easily where to tap into the harness at. I looked on Google without any success.

The second idea would be installing a toggle switch to open the circuit controlling the shifter lock solenoid, the one that prevents shifting unless the brake pedal is depressed.

A wireless controlled 12v relay would also work for either of these circuits. Any comments are welcome!

Why are you adverse to installing a remote starter? There's a few DIY that you can buy and do the same thing.

I'm an OEM guy and don't like making major wiring changes to the system. When there's an electrical problem, the first thing the service manual says is to "Remove any aftermarket devices".

BTDT, fixed way too many wiring problems on vehicles over the years, many times caused by poor hack installs of aftermarket crap. Any change I make will be very simple and be able to be removed in 5 minutes or less.

I am oem prefered too, a dealer tech. I can tell you the remote starters are much more simple now, barely 6 wires, its all canbus. I installed my own with splicing in 1 hour.

They now have harnesses that simply click in https://www.amazon.com/Start-X-Toyota-Starter-T-Harness-2016-2018/dp/B07D7J4VGM

We still see remote starter issues, but its a lot less due to more resources available and harnesses that are plug and play.
