I've got a double cab and one of my largest annoyances is that I only have an automatic window switch on my driver side front window. This got me thinking, it can't be tough to replace the other three buttons with the switch for the automatic window.

Are they different switches or is it an entirely different mechanism/button. If the later, it should just be a matter of replacing the whole non-auto switch with an auto switch.

    Thoughts?

I am currently working on this, transplanting the window switches from a 99-02 4runner with driver and passenger auto up/down into my 99 tacoma. It is not a simple plug and play.

The 4runner uses different window motors to deal with the auto up non hand crushing feature. There is an extra harness that goes to the passenger window switch as well as the motors.

So far I made the driver window go auto up and down 4", then it stops. I also got the power locks working. I just received the passenger side switch (which also has a chip in it like the driver side), and I am hoping that it will allow the passenger side to work.

Another issue with my truck is the fact that the trim pieces are different. I am going to custom make some, but if you have a 01-04 then the pieces should be the same.

You can see the progress here http://www.customtacos.com/forum/15-interior-audio-electronics/172882-1999-power-window-wiring.html

Most people suggest going with an aftermarket setup, which is much simpler.
