What say you? I’ve used electrical tape to keep the braid from slipping on spool before. Always seems messy w/ glue residue down the road. I’ve heard some use blue painters tape, some use overpriced specific tape from your local tackle store. Reminds me of the ace bandage cloth tape that only sticks to itself. Running mono & tying on braid- I’ve done that before but not one these smaller palm size reels like A Revo SX Gen 4 & using a pole with micro guides. That uni knot running up the tiny guides scares me. A friend told me he never uses backing, ties braid right on spool w/ no slip ever. He uses an arbor knot but wraps spool twice instead of once. He leaves the tag line instead of cutting it off & starts spooling right over the tag. Anyone heard of this method?

I used mono (secure with an albright knot to the braid), and I've also used electrical tape. You just use a little bit of mono, enough to cover the base of the spool. If you've lost enough line to hit that knot at the reel backing you're screwed anyways. I use an Abu Revo for inshore salt and I sized up to 50 lb braid to fill the spool out and to aid in casting.

I recommend using good electrical tape like Scotch super 33 or 35 colored tape. The white or yellow don't seem to leave a mess. You only need a small piece. I start spooling with minimal tension and gradually increase to get the line to dig into the tape. I've never had line slip.

You'd think that manufacturers would be producing all braid ready spools by now. I don't think many people use mono on small baitcasters anyway.

some new spools have a rubber cushion you can tie braid straight to the spool with an arbor knot. some you have to run a mono leader with a uni-knot to the braid. Then tie the arbor knot with the mono piece to the spool.

Electrical tape, Albright knots is one of the easiest. I use the bob sands knot for my connection, just personal preference. YouTube a bunch of knots and learn them and see which one you’re more comfortable and have the most confidence in.

I run the line through the holes in the spool then tie it, never had any problems

I've been buying some PENN spinning reels and they have braid-ready spools. I've become a big fan of their stuff.

Run the braid through the holes and tie it. Never had any issues.

    back to bone stock.
I use the holes as well. But to save money I do initially spool up with mono first. Backer line? I think that’s what it’s called.
