I have a 2018 SR5 access cab. I want to install gauges (volt, water temperature, oil pressure). I was told by one mechanic gauges cannot be installed because of the electronics/computer software. The guy said if someone comes up with a way of bypassing all the electronics then it could be done. Is he right? Could I install an oil gauge, a simple mechanical, plastic line from block to pressure gauge with a "T" plug in the engine block.
    Thanks.

Why would do that install gauges when you can get all that information from the obd2 port and Bluetooth it to your phone or tablet plenty of companies selling the adapter and software to view in real time.

Can it read oil pressure? I thought the stock sensor on the 2gr fks was only a low pressure sensor; ie not dynamic...

I'm certain you likely can. I did it in my '03 Neon. You just need to know the size fittings. I installed a "T" on the block, the stock sending unit on the bottom and the AutoMeter sending unit on the end opposite end from the block. Like this:

Block T AM Sending unit ------ Gauge
Stock Sending unit ------ Vehicle wiring

As far as what size fittings you'd need, I don't know. And I would use an electro-mechanical gauge so you only have to run a single wire through the firewall and not an oil tube.

Shellshock: BIG thank you for the scangauge. It can tell you a lot. So to look at coolant temperature, you press the bottom, to look at oil, you press the button, to look at volts you press the button
