So I've searched the forums, lots of posts about how to add it to trucks with the pre existing hardware and 2nd generation but haven't seen one on how to add it to a 1st gen base model.

So I've studied the diagrams and I think have the setup figured out. Now I just need the parts.

The wires are there but I am missing the actuators, stalk for steering wheel, clutch switch, cables and control module.

Is it just plug and play?

Anyone done this or want to talk me out of it.

Really? No one has any experience with installing this?

You forgot the brake-light switch. You need to swap yours for one from a Toyota that has dual-function switch.

I couldn't find anyone that has done this to a truck that didn't already come with it. I don't know if anything would have to be done to the wiring harness or the steering column.

What I did was a semi-homemade setup using an actuator (aka servo) from a Camry. No stalk, no CC computer. Took a lot of tinkering, wiring, and trial and error but it Kinda works, but nothing like a stock setup.

Check with your Toyota dealer, I believe they sell a "kit". I had it installed on my '99 when I was living in Az.

I did some research on this a while ago for my 2001. There is/was a retrofit kit per the attached pdf. I think I read somewhere is was made by Rostra. This kit is a bit different than the factory installed option because I think the stalk is installed on the left of the steering column.

The kit has 2 part numbers for automatic vs. manual transmission. I have an automatic. When I searched for the automatic part number I was able to find companies with the kit listed for sale. But others have said the kit is actually no longer available, and you have to get a donor vehicle to remove the parts. I printed out the pdf and was going to check with the local Toyota dealer to see if this kit is still in inventory, but have not had a chance.

I am still thing about this, so I will watch this thread for more info.

That is the kit I had. You would think with all the correct parts you could retro fit an OEM stalk. It took Hatch Toyota about three hours to install on my 5 speed 4 cyl.
