Man I've got it installed just fine but just purchased a new fob and I can't get it into programming mode following the directions. Anybody else encounter this?

Did you purchase the fob with the part number for “transmitter” listed in original instructions?

I just installed mine this morning, thanks for the awesome write up!! this made life much easier. The only issue I'm having is I also can't enter the programming mode. one fob works fine and the other doesn't. Any advice besides going to the dealer I bought it from??

i never had to try the programming mode, both fobs that came with mine worked immediately. I wonder if it’s a bad battery in your fob or a bad fob?

I'm thinking maybe bad fob. Because the green light comes on when you press any button, just no connection to the truck. I scheduled to go to the dealer where it was purchased.

Thanks OP! You saved me a lot of time! Took me and my son about 3 hours, but mostly just trying to figure things out. If I did it again, I could do it in half the time.

I created an account on here just to say, Phenomenal instructions. This worked on my 2021 tacoma sr.i ordered my kit from Amazon, the Toyota "apporved" had me skeptical, but everything worked out.

TOYOTA APPORVED SET KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CAMRY TUNDRA YARIS COROLLA 00016-32901 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SX2DC9S?_encoding=UTF8

Theres one thing i gotta say, i think i know why you said people skipped the horn.when i reconnected my negative battery terminal, the horn started sounding and wouldn't stop.i disconnected the battery again, then the horn, and reconnected it.no horn! I eventually said f it and reconnected the horn.when it started sounding i just followed the steps in the instructions at the end and eventually it stopped.just saying dont let the horn sounding make you paranoid like it did to me.just my 2 cents.

everything works as it should now.thanks for this, it really helped!

    Congrats!
The Toyota dealers associations came up with this kit since many SR owners wanted keyless entry, so it’s Toyota dealers approved, not produced by Toyota as far as I know. Works great though.
If memory serves me right I just had to press the FOB Lock or Unlock button (or maybe the panic button) to stop the horn from blowing when I reconnected the battery. :D

Greetings all; any idea if this keyless kit will work on a 2007 Tacama Prerunner. It's got the power locks but no keyless entry.
    Thanks very much.

Thanks everyone who has contributed here. I've got my kit in hand, and ready to install but want to dial in my understanding of the ON-OFF toggle switch. The OEM guide goes through the process of using this switch and the ignition switch to teach your receiver your key fobs, but doesn't cover whether or not to leave it in the ON or OFF position when done. The OP states to leave it in the ON position, but others through this thread have said to leave it OFF.

What does turning the valet switch in the ON vs OFF position actually do, and how are y'all leaving it when you're done installing and putting things back together. Thanks!

OFF - that’s the last place left it per the instructions. I tested both my FOBs before mounting the box, already programmed didn’t need to program them and didn’t install the switch. likely for if you have to buy a new FOB for it. Switch is only used to allow the box to be in the programming mode.

It could, the install would be very similar. You'll need to identify connectors in you 2nd Gen that have the required circuits to tap into. Ground, Fused battery power and fused ignition source are easy. The unlock detect wire, unlock/lock switch wires and the unlock/lock solenoid on driver's side.

@motofish84 I recently purchased a 2018 Tacoma SR access cab that sort of unbelievably did not come with keyless entry :/

The kit you used isn't currently available, can you or anyone recommend another kit around the same price point?

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The kit I used was Toyota 00016-32912 Keyless Entry, I believe that’s the current version. If you google it you can find it at several dealers, ebay (where I got mine), I paid around $100 for mine.

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket remote start/ keyless entry kit for my 2018 Tacoma that is easy to install? I figured if I have to install keyless entry, may as well get the remote start as well.

I just bought a base 2022 Tacoma, electric locks, but no keyless entry - I can loose my vehicle pretty quick in a parking lot, and therefore I often need to use a remote key to help me find my car. Can anyone point me to a Toyota approved after market module that can be installed on this truck that would allow remote keyless entry? Thank you in advance for any help.
