Thanks Tyler! I installed this today and your post made it significantly easier to follow the steps and identify the correct plugs in really good detail. I’d recommend anyone doing it not comfortable wiring or without experience take it slow & treat the wires gently. It’s delicate work, try to accomplish something different if you’ve got a couple beers in your system. Thanks again!

additional notes; installed the bed lights at same time, the two towards the back not included in my package. The harness & relay were already installed on the base model, was easy to just pop in the oem switch at the same time then plug in the lights behind the taillights.

    I just installed this and have the same 2022 base Tacoma. The AMZ description for the Toyota part number;
TOYOTA 2020 Tacoma Remote Keyless Entry 00016-12922

I wish there was a post like this for adding keyless ignition to a truck that already has keyless entry. I feel like it's a much bigger task to make that work though.

Hi guys and gals. I have had my kit since last fall and finally got around to installing it. Don't care for the wire splicing on 22-24 ga wire but I did it and hope those little tiny wires hold up. Mine weren't exactly all under the column some were more to the side but there is room in the bottom steering cover for them anyway and I don't think they are under any stress under there. So cheers to the people that have done it. My install worked the first time I tried it with both remotes.

Anyone try this on a 22 yet? My dealership said Toyota hasn't released a 'Remote Keyless Entry' part for the 22 yet which has me wondering if the wiring's changed.

AFAIK - this kit isn't an official Toyota part that is available from all toyota dealers and parts places.. It was developed by the South East Toyota Dealers (assoc) based on customer demand.
I could be wrong, but my local dealer had no idea it even existed. Im in western CO.

Gonadiator There is a post above from a person with a 2022 that installed it which tells me the 2022 SR is that same.

I had to sign up just to say THANK YOU to the OP Tyler for the great pix and advice! The instructions that were not included but in the link you provided were a bit confusing but between that and what you posted and the great close up photos you had I did it no worries. It was difficult to find one of these kits as the part numbers are confusing and don’t exactly match on all the documentation and posts here. None available on Amazon in 2022 but I got mine from an eBay dude who had several left as of about a month ago. (April 2022)
I imagine in the future I will find more helpful 411 on Tacoma world.

wanna hear something funny? I got here accidentally because I actually live near Tacoma WA and was looking for something else and thought Tacoma world would be what I was needing but it turned to be about Toyota pickups! Haha.

New 2023 SR taco owner here and 1st post. I thought I missed the boat on getting an OEM keyless entry kit but I did managed to find one (00016-12922) in Buford, Georgia after three weeks cold calling taco dealerships throughout the southeast. It didn’t come with instructions but thank goodness for this thread and the PDF instructions from Sparks. When I ordered one, the parts manager told me it’s been discontinued but had 3 left in stock in their Florida warehouse if you’re interested.

A million thanks to @motofish84 and all other contributors for this guide. After reading many helpful threads, I wanted keyless entry without remote-start. Coming from a Subaru Forester, I thought you just needed to buy a fob and program it to get keyless entry. Boy was I wrong. I’m going to replace the T-taps with Posi-taps. Hope it works.

You'll have fun.. I installed mine last year or so.. just take your time. Mine has been doing fine, it worked much better after I disconnected the headlights.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to write and say that I installed this kit today. The diagrams and instructions were extremely helpful. I just bought a 2023 tacoma, and the instructions were still accurate. Thank you for everyone who contributed to this install!

So, before installing this kit, you had to physically put the key in the lock to unlock the vehicle?

Yeah, that's correct. I actually didn't realize they sold cars nowadays without a keyless entry. lol.

Also to reiterate a point mentioned earlier in the thread, it's not easy to find the kit. The kit is now discontinued, so if you've thought about this, order it now. I also ended up calling a toyota dealer in GA. They were super helpful and did a transaction over the phone.

I know this is an old post, but I did something similar to a 2006 Tundra but it didnt require this much effort because Toyota made the wire harnesses all the same regardless of options. All i had to add was the OEM receiver to the connector that was already there.. I wonder if Tacoma would be similar. Especially being a newer year model i would imagine you could do this!.

    Tacoma OEM part# 89741-04010
this would work with an OEM door key fob just like i did for tundra. Maybe would need techstream, it was easier than doing the key and lock/unlock sequence to "teach" new fob to car.
