    Greetings all,

I'm finally ready to have my previous stereo components installed in my 2011 Access Cab PreRunner. (My 2002 Tacoma was rear ended and totalled about a year and a half ago, and it took over a year to settle with the insurance company.)

In that truck I was running an Alpine 9884 head unit and Alpine ERE G180 11 band EQ, and an Alpine 3554 multi channel amp configured to 50x2 for the Infinity Beta mids and tweeters in the doors and 150x1 for an MTX 4500 10" sub in a sealed box behind the drivers seat.

This time, since I have more space in the doors, I'm going to use the Infinity Beta 6 & 1/2" mids left over from my F 350, along with the same Beta tweeters and crossovers.

I had a problem before that when I turned up the volume loud, the amp would shut down and go into protection mode on a transient peak.

The sub is 4ohms, as are the other speakers. I thought that maybe the amp wasn't compatible with the sub because that's never happened to me before with other installs. I've had this amp since it was new and it's been in a few different vehicles.

Could it be that the amp was not able to draw enough current from the Tacoma's electrical system? I don't remember what gauge power cable I was using, but it had an in line fuse block which never blew.

This time I'd like to get a seperate 300x1 mono amp (most likely an Alpine) to run the sub and use the 3554 for the front mids and tweeters only.

That would mean configuring the 3554 to 2 channel mode, where it would put out 150x2.
I thought that might be too much power but my installer said that it would be fine.
(It seemed to me before that 50x2 wasn't enough for the front speakers, but I don't want to blow them up with too much power.)

Does this sound like a good way to go?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Jeff
