Can anyone tell me the proper procedure for installing a windshield, the fsm that i downloaded cuts out before it says anything helpful about doing the install. Or any links to diy videos/ect would be appreciated.

windshields in one thing you don't want to try doing it yourself, its well worth the cost to let a professional glass company do it.

trust me you don't want to break it or have to deal with leak issues and they don't charge much

I had mine done and only paid $206 total tax included that included the glass, install kit (some sort of polymer bonding agent to seal it) and the labor

if you bring them the glass to put in it then it will probably just cost you $100

I had mine replaced for $170 and they even installed a genuine Toyota for same price as generic. I wouldn't begin to attempt it for that like others said let the pros do windows !

Call insurance company, add glass coverage, doesn't cost much more, wait a week or two, call em and claim a new windshield for free:)

I replaced my own, but not the proper way. I was about 2 hours away from home at the time and just wanted something to last me for the drive back. I had a replacement windshield from a junk yard to put in. After removing the old shattered windshield I used a grinder to remove the old urethane off right to the metal, than applied a quick coat of primer. I did not have the rubber gasket to put down before installing the windshield so I just applied a healthy 1/2'' bead of urethane and put the glass in place. I put a few pieces of tape to hold the windshield in place while it dried and that was it.

I was told the glass would crack as soon as I hit a decent bump or got flex but after 2 years it's still holding up after my Baja like trail driving. Definitely not the right way to do it but I guess all I would say is if you want to save a buck don't be scared to give it a go. When replacement time comes around again I'll probably do it myself but hopefully with the proper gasket and things.
