Does anyone have pics of the inside roof of their reinforced Snugtop with tracks? I am going to be adding some soon on my Super Sport but now this location info has me confused.

I’m looking to add rails to my ARE for either a rack or crossbars for a rtt and was wondering I’m assuming I would have to ditch the clamps holding the topper on and bolt it down correct?

My measurements from my pic/reply in September 20,
My measurements from my pic/post in August, 20" from center, caught the honeycomb on both sides. I measured multiple times. Im pretty sure you can't go out much further! Yes, you are right, tracks will not match up with stripping on cab.

I’m planning on adding some tracks to my cap and wondering if anyone has experience with using l-track instead of the Thule or Yakima options? I’ve seen some folks on here with what looks like l-track on the roof and wondering if they’d do it that way again or go another route? I like the idea of the ruggedness and modularity of l-track. @Phoosa is that what you used for your roof tracks?

I think it really depends on what you are mounting. The l-tracks have stud and threaded nut options, but they will raise the overall height when compared to yakima or thule tracks.

I bought some pro lines for a shell but returned them and went with Yakima. The quality on the pro line seems fine. I’m sure they would do the job, but they were much higher profile than the others.

@fredgoodsell Thanks for the info, I appreciate it...kinda figured prolines wouldn’t be the way to go, but I was kinda hoping they were legit lol :)

I think the prolines are plenty strong, just not as thin/streamlined. So depending on your application, I would totally recommend them

Honestly just would like a budget-friendly way to mount my bars and rooftop carrier (need to get some compatible feet) that I'll probably never move and store extra gear in. Have looked at the bolt toploaders too, just not sure which one to go with :)

Phoosa I plan on installing the L Tracks just like you. Trying to figure out how to attach my Yakima bracket. Can you show me how you attached yours to the track?

    thanks,

Same way they are mounted to roof rails.
Insert for tower mounting bolts slides right in.

:facepalm:Ok, kinda silly question but maybe not really lol: I’ve researched and have seen people say they have put a factory rack from a forerunner on their shell, but I haven’t been able to find any pics or how they went about it… Does anyone have any information on this?
For me personally, this seems like an affordable and somewhat low profile option as I am only looking to put my rooftop carrier on there which should be compatible (as opposed to buying tracks, new feet, and bars) :) Yes, unfortunately I’m just that cheap, my bad ‍:)

What does the hardware look like for mounting to shell?

You could always just use uni-strut!

Anyone install tracks on a mid-rise shell like a leer 180 or are mx? I would assume its similar to cab height but the measurements will probably differ as it seems there is less surface area on the roof of the mid-rise as compared to the cab height. I would like to try this on my leer 180, just wondering if anyone has experience doing it on a mid-riser.

What did you have questions about? I installed tracks on a 1st gen 6ft bed ARE MX. The MX has a curved roof, that's really the only difference I can see.
I installed these on my 2nd MX since they are cheaper than Yakima: https://www.prolineracks.com/item/Proline-Roof-Top-Rack-End-Track-Slats-149
They don't come with cap nuts though.

    @Ts77 @tacohusker

If you all are looking for a budget friendly alternative to the more expensive brand name tracks like Yakima, Thule, Rhino-Rack (or even the more budget friendly - Proline), you could try doing what a couple other members did, mentioned on a similar themed thread entitled "Cap/shell roof rack". You might also find the thread "Cheap DIY Shell Roof Rack" helpful.

Long of the short - you may have some luck finding some early 2000's Ford Windstar roof rack and tracks for around $20 at your local Pick-and-Pull/junkyard, which would work perfectly for a Long bed topper. And they are pretty low profile, imo.

Or if you're looking for tracks for a Short bed topper, then late 90's/early 2000's Toyota 4Runner (I think they're 48"?) might work as well. And the 4Runner racks/tracks even come with some little I-loops that you can attacks hooks and things to, like @vwbuggsy did - here.

    20200527_135929.jpg

    Hope this helps!
