Try tuning the system, this made a world of difference. IMG_5399.jpg IMG_5398.jpg

Spotify set to loud and adjust the EQ.

Turn the auto sound or whatever off. The setting wheee is changes the volume with the speed. Then adjust fader a little. Worked good for me.

Just some 35% tint to match the rears and some 285/70/17 Falkens…
I will never remove that speaker. Simply because if that thing ever gets stolen / damaged / lost, with the supply chain issues of today...you may end up with a hold in your dash. Although I think the removable speaker is kind of a gimmick (You can take any bluetooth speaker anywhere with you, as they sell hundred of models everywhere for less than $50). That being said, I think it sounds fine...The JBL system is designed to just give you a little extra power, not shake people's windows (who would wanna do that anyways??)...just my two pennies.

I have a random question. My 2024 Trd Off-road doesn’t have the JBL speaker in the dash. Anyone know if I will be able to add this? I would love to have the speaker to take fishing

Just buy any bluetooth speaker, there is nothing special about the JBL unit from Toyota.

Yeah, you're not missing anything without the JBL except the overpowered dash speaker.

Thank you for this post! Removing the center channel was an instant, and massive improvement.
The system sounded terrible before, and now it is very, very good. Using lossless audio via usb stick, FYI.

I wouldn’t even want one. Mine came with one and I think it sounds horrible and tinny. I removed mine and just leave it in my center console because it sounds much better without it imo. I’d buy a better quality one to take fishing. One better designed for the outdoors

I’m sure a center speaker delete cover plate will be made by someone if not already available.

3d printers get to workin on it, make that money

    edit: part number
    55474-AK020 and
55474-AK010 are covers for w/w/o jbl

We had a Gladiator Rubicon and it had a built-in bluetooth speaker, it docked behind the rear seat back. It was much larger, more powerful, and sounded a lot better.

Integrating that crappy little bluetooth speaker into the audio system was a big mistake by Toyota. Just a stupid gimmick and it doesn't payoff.

They made a lot of mistakes with the 4th gen. I don't know about their cars or vans (because I don't drive cars or vans), but they are literally burning down their truck product lines.

I like the portable speaker far more than expected and would like that as an option on other vehicles.

I’m surprised also.. Seemed kinda gimmicky at first but I’ve used it several times.

I tried removing the center speaker today after seeing this thread and...I couldn't really tell a difference. I had already adjusted the balance to make the rear door speakers sound like they actually exist, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm not unhappy with the sound, it just comes off a bit "muddy" and I have to turn the volume up higher with the balance favoring the rear speakers. My wife has a 2025 Camry and that sound system is night-and-day better than the JBL in the Tacoma.
