You don’t have to tape all the contacts, just the one that provides the audio.

I adjusted my system to sound pretty good with the removable center.

Go to your equalizer and reduce the midrange way low. This will cause you to turn the volume up higher to get the mids at the right level to the center and also boost up your lows and highs at the pillars and doors.

toyota just needs to roll out an update already on this instead of making you blare your speakers to get the right sound. i already knew there was a sound difference without the center speaker and i love the way it sounds but without the center speaker but you can tell something is still missing. its frustrating but it is what it is.

it’s not really blaring. People just said that the center, which pushes mostly mids, was too loud and overpowered the highs and lows. So I just lowered the mids so they would be more balanced with the highs and lows. A SW update by Toyota would essentially be doing the same thing … balancing the low-mid-high sound … but, yes, would also probably give more variability. What I am suggesting is just a work-around trying to make the best of the way things are.

Personal preference really, but I always find that adjusting the fader rearward a click or two takes the loudness out of the front.

I don't think speakers firing into glass ever sounds optimal but removing the windscreen may produce less favorable results...

I want this …. I had just finished upgrading my 3rd gen 2022 Tacoma with amp, subwoofer, door speakers and tweeter upgrades and about a month later it was totaled in an accident. Maybe eventually I’ll do this again but just haven’t had the time to start something like this again
