I'm going with 'Preferred Generation' from now on.

Now if I can just make it through the next 378 days (but who's counting?) until my Rav4 lease is up so I can actually get into one of these bad boys.

PS: For the record, all gens are amazing, but they just keep getting better. =)
    :crapstorm:Haha...have fun guys

It's mostly people who own a Secondary Generation who call it the Turd generation.

I think people call it that just because it's a little funny and catchy, but don't actually hate the truck. At least that's the case with me on the off chance I call it a turd gen.

Hell EVERY generation has had their own set of problems. With a new Gen brings new things and those things must be tweaked.
It's gonna take time but it'll all get sorted out. I like some things about both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks. There is A LOT of potential in the 3rd gens tho.

I call 80's camaro's turd gens. But that fits better, I mean how is it possible to get only 145hp from a 5L engine.

I feel like once the MY18's drop there's going to be a lot less turdgen talk of this generations pitfalls.

You MY16/17 are still gonna be totally buttfucked though. Problems will keep popping up especially once wear components start going. But eventually the MY18+ third gen posts will outweigh the Guinea Pig years.

I'm happy without the nanny safety features on the new models. I like to be in control of my truck.

I love my turd, I mean third gen. It's just too easy to say, and hey I love it when folks refer to my ride as the shit.

HATE is a strong word. If I was in need of a truck and got a great deal on one, if likely bite, but not if I have to pay normal price.

Yeah, I agree. The joke just wears thin after a few thousand repetitions. Kinda like when people pronounce "Target" as "Tarjhay" and still thinks it's clever.

I gotta say, this thread is going much better than expected so far though, so that's a plus, lol.

All the safety tech in MY 18'+ is not in keeping with the purpose of what the Tacoma is supposed to be to me.

The first time I was backing out of a driveway on the test drive on a different model Toyota it slammed on the brakes thinking the ground was a vehicle approaching.

And it was super annoying for following distances. Nothing to do with the real world of rush hour on a freeway.

Seems recent 17's don't have any problems yet.

IMO 17' and for my preferences the Pro is gonna be best of the best.

Sounds like some of the 3rd gen crowd is a little sensitive.

Eh, I've owned 7 Tacomas all gens, I do like my 17 the best, but I'm still calling it a turd gen for various reasons. Its like that one legged, one eyed flea infested dog that is all sorts of messed up but somehow still adorable and you love for no apparent reason.

I love my "Secondary Generation". To call the "turd gen" a preferred generation is pretty bold especially without a solid study behind the claim but you do you.
Feel free to come on over to the darkside for a test drive, some of us have no TC, VSC, etc. (Me included )

My 2nd gen was referred to as a turd because TRD on the bedsides... what's the big deal?

The newer tacos have some awesome upgrades from the 2nd gen, and they'll work out the quirks soon enough. Besides, with the Titan around... the 3rd gens aren't the ugliest truck on the road right now :stirthepot:

I prefer to call mine Turd Gen, because it turds on anything else out there except for the Raptor and or Ram Revel but that's a whole different category even so, it goes to show :crapstorm:

    Cheers!
