    Hi TW,

Hoping I can get some knowledgable advice here. I'm helping a friend with a theft recovery '10 DC. The interior was stripped out of it, along with the instrument cluster. We have sourced a cluster with very nearly the correct miles to replace it. My question is, will it swap straight in? I know some newer vehicles have to go to the dealer and be coded before the cluster will work correctly. Does the Taco require that? Or will it work correctly when we drop it in, does anyone have any experience here?

    Thanks for any help!

    Won't insurance cover everything?

Yes the "new" cluster will work just fine as long as its the exact replacement meaning if the truck is manual then it doesn't have the shifter indicators or if it's automatic is for the right tranny either the 4 speed for the 4 banger or 5 speed for the V6

Also, mileage is saved on the cluster itself so whatever it shows on it that's where it's going to start from

Yup it will work miles won't. You will have to take it to a dealer to get it reprogramed

Really? I've ran a bunch of clusters on my truck and it reads the Miles on every single one (back when I used to test them on that truck after the swap)

Yes true like you said miles are saved to the cluster so to get his miles back he would have to go to the dealer and get the new one reprogrammed

Lol, ok thanks guys for the info! It was bought stripped from a salvage auction, so no insurance help. I don't know if it's noted as an odometer discrepancy on the title work or whatever, but I think he's got a cluster located with miles close enough to correct where he feels ok about it. Not my concern, I was just trying to find out if it would plug 'n play.

One more question: the replacement cluster is out of an 07 I think. All the ones I see listed on eBay say 05-07 or 05-08... They look exactly the same as the '10 model clusters. Anyone know if one from an 07 4.0L AT will work in a '10 4.0L AT? I can't imagine they changed anything significant, but not a single one listed mentions fitting 09 and up, makes me wonder.

if the truck had one of the new fancy white/CF looking clusters, previous years will not match up. i did one of those new clusters and when i plugged in the cluster to my 05, certain lights did not light up like they were supposed to and others that should not have been lit were (and yes, i did hte LED swap correctly!!)

To what yosh2000 said...he's correct, I completly forgot about that

Some of the 2009-2011 have certain lights swapped around like the headlight indicator etc...
So you will have the wrong lights on

They are wired differently inside the actual cluster. I have a 2007 and because I wanted the LEDs pulled a 2014 cluster from the wrecker from a truck with the same configuration; 4.0 auto 4x4 DCSB. Plugged right in and bolted in of course too. The illumination and gear indicator worked but had strange lights on and none of the gauges worked.
The odo showed the donors mileage not mine but stopped counting and trip meters stuck at 0.0 too.

I think I'm gonna call the dealer before a visit to see if that's something they can reprogram but I'm pretty sure they can't

I went back to the old one and had no issues so I might just sell the 2014 cluster

Could they ever reprogram the 2014 cluster to work in a 07 taco? And if so. “How much”?

    it’s not the programming
    It’s the wiring that’s different
You can repin the harness to work with it
