I bought mine for $80. You just have to keep watching eBay or call the junkyards

I'm reviving an old thread here but I have a few questions about 97 and older clusters. I swapped my non tac cable driven 4 cylinder 2.4 2wd cluster with a cable driven tac cluster from a 2.7 4x4. The tac seams to be work fine shows idle rpms about 650 to 700 is this about right? Also seems that the speedo is slow by about 5mph. Is the gear that controls the speed on the the other end of the cable in the transmission? If I swop the gear will it fix the speedo?

    700 rpm is correct idle.

The speedometer needle can be carefully pulled off and repositioned to show the correct speed.

Did you swap the speedometer from the old cluster or change the odometer reading on the new speedometer?

No I rolled the odometer on the new cluster forward to match the old odometer. I did the because the old odometer did not have the trip odometer on it. Should I switch it back.

is there a trick to doing this easily?

I took mine apart and put the worm gear on a cordless drill but I stopped because I did some quick math and figured out it would take about 20 hours to roll forward that way lol

No need to switch back. I was just wondering how familiar you were with the speedometer mechanism. You should be able to hold the back part of the mechanism while carefully rotating the needle a little to make the reading more accurate. Alternatively, you could take the front clear plastic off and place the needle on while driving at a constant speed, using a gps device to determine your speed.

Yeah i took the gear that the worm gear spins and set it up against the drill chuck. I only had to go up 10,000 miles took about 2 minutes to do. Ill take a picture of what i mean when i get home.

ah I think I gotcha, I didn't even think of doing it that way. I have to go up about 40,000 miles so I'll probably try giving that a shot

Don't suppose anybody knows where I can get a 2002 2.4L A/T cluster with a tach? Been reading these threads-- while Searching ebay. It Appears my options are limited, especially having only 120k on my new taco :)
