I'm trying to remove my instrument cluster to have the odometer repaired. This if for a '95 4-wheel drive with the 6 cylinder engine. Anyway, I removed all of the dashboard plastic and exposed the cluster, with its four mounting screws, and removed those. My problem now is that I can't pull the cluster out far enough to get my hands back there to disconnect the wiring harnesses and the odometer cable. I think it's the odometer cable that is keeping it from moving. I think the newer models probably just have an electrical signal for the odometer, but this one seems to have a cable attached. What is the trick for disconnecting this cable? Do I just pull it out harder? I don't want to break anything.

Pop the hood and loosen up the bolts holding the spedo cable to the fire wall. Pull some slack from the transmission side of the cable. This should make it easier to pull the cluster out further. You should be able to reach behind the cluster now.

OK thanks, I'll try that. How does the cable disconnect from the back of the instrument cluster?

It has a small clip on one side push on the back side away from the cluster. It should slide out.

Ok, I just gave it a good yank. The speedo cable just came out no problem, and then I was able to remove the wiring connectors easily.
