I believe I need to replace my speedometer / gauge cluster (i.e., combination gauge). I received the P0500 error code and have ruled out the sensors (replaced them and their harnesses, speedo itself reads fine but MPH is all over the place in my scangauge).

Do you guys know if i can just get the same year v6 gauge cluster or do i need to find one more specific such as another truck with the same oyear/model/options. etc.? I have a 2010 TRD Offroad V6 4x4 (with ATRAC, down hill assist, etc.)

I guess my question comes down to... if i use a cluster from a sport or regular tacoma, will it still work and show the correct lights?

    Thanks!

The photo is just to show all the lights that com eon when i switch the truck on, but only the check engine light and the slip indicator light stays on (icon directly beneath the check engine light).

Hoping I don't have to replace the ABS pump / computer (looks like a big undertaking).

I had the same code and had to replace my cluster. There is a part# on the back of the cluster that needs to match. Transmission, VSC, engine and year(I believe) need to match. I'd look at the back of your cluster for the part number and go from there.

I'm assuming you'd need 83800-04F20 depending on your options. If I were you I'd look for the same year to be safe.

I removed my cluster last night and got the part number. Went on ebay, ordered a rebuilt one for $140 + 40 core charge. That company is supposed to reprogram the mileage on the need cluster to match my existing. Will report back once I have that installed. 2017-06-22 21.16.01.jpg

Do your windows and AC blower still work? If not, Check your IG No 2. fuse...it is the panel behind the coin tray.

Thanks for the tip. I checked No. 2 fuse as you suggested and a few other ones I thought related to the issue, but they all looked fine.

I replaced the cluster. The replacement one didn't work. The needles stopped moving. I drove the truck around, unplugged the battery to try to reset the ECU... still no go. I noticed that the speed on my scangauge 2 was still reading 0 mph, same as before the cluster swap. I put my old one back in and everything is back to where it was (with the check engine and slip indicator). I think the replacement cluster didn't work because either it was defective or it didn't match my year exactly. It appeared to have all the same lights though (ATRAC, 4x4 lock, etc.). The replacement cluster had a part number of 83600-04E41-A which according to what i read is interchangeable with for my existing cluster (part number 83600-04E40-A). Surprised it didn't work.

I believe I've ruled everything out now front except for the ABS computer. Now I need to find a replacement ABS computer with ATRAC, downhill assist, etc. for the same year. Anyone know how i can find that part number?

I would try the EXACT part number first. I don't think they would be different part numbers for no reason.

Not the first time I have heard or even diagnosed the ABS computer biting the dust on these trucks. Damn bud, I'm sorry about your troubles. :(

The part number should be either stamped or etched onto the computer itself, if you can't see it, chances are you may have to pull it.

Thanks for the tips. I probably should try the identical part number cluster, but i feel like the replacement should have at least sent the speed signal to my scangauge II, however, it didn't so i'm ruling the cluster out.

I don't see the part number on the skid control ECU (am i looking at the right part?)

I believe I will need either 47050-04032 or 47050-04052. I got my truck March 2010 new. It's a 1-1.5k part so hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Miss the old days where you could get any cluster and get it to work.

I'm tempted to purchase the identical cluster part number but my gut is telling me that it's the ABS computer / master cylinder.

I suspect the problem is the ABS system because of a few factors:

-Last time i changed my front pads, my driver's side pads were extremely worn. My passenger side pads were like new.
-The brakes on the truck gets hot really fast, likely because only 1 side is doing most of the work

The ABS system wouldn't have anything to do with that unless you drive like a maniac on a regular basis. It's more likely you have issues with your driver side caliper.

It would be cheap(er) to swap the cluster for the exact part number to at least rule that out.

Problem solved! Turns out it was something to do with the wiring in my stereo.

I unplugged the stereo which resolved the problem. I think there was some sort of interference happening. I reinstalled the stereo and took more time/care to tuck the wires neater than it was.

Did you notice what exactly was the interference when you reconnected the Stereo? Do you have an aftermarket stereo?
