Insurance company monitoring mileage on 3rd Gen.

My insurance company is monitoring my mileage on my 3rd Gen. I use to have low mileage discount on my truck because I don't drive it much. I have a company truck. My insurance person now knows my current mileage. Hmmmmmmm? How do they know is question?

Dealership sharing info? Don't keep up with it any other way. you might want to check with your IC.

 

Do you have inspections? It may come from that.

I have to go by my agents office around renewal time every year to let them see the odo to keep my low mileage discount in place. But we don't have inspections, and the dealer only sees my truck for recalls.

 

zero privacy in today’s age. did you ask the insurance agent how they got it?

 

I drive 30K a year. My wife drives 5K a year. We have the same plan, and pay more, just because I don't need someone monitoring my every move lol.

 

Is there a device plugged into your on board diagnostics connector? When my daughter was going to try to get cheaper insurance the company had her plug a device into the connector. It told her and them every thing about her driving habits as well as where certain events happened. It knew everywhere she went and how she drove getting there.

 

I assume the insurance company can run your vin at anytime and see your service records.
I know if you have been taking advantage of the 25,000 mile free toyota care the dealership does log your miles at each service interval.
Many third party oil change/tire shops also record your odometer mileage. That’s the only way your insurance company can find out how many miles are actually on your truck.
My insurance company (Geico) did ask how many miles I drive in a year but never asked or retrieved my actual odometer reading.

 

Toyota care is good for a little longer.

No device.

No inspections.

I figure they are getting it through Toyota.

 

More likely public records that are fed by data from Toyota. Unless the insurance is paying Toyota for access to their data, which I really doubt.

Like someone else said, just ask your agent.

 

Pretty much a non issue, who cares, your credit card company and Amazon knows more about what your doing than an odometer reading.

 

I was reading a little about Amazon and it said at certain times they actually start pulling and boxing your order 'before' you even place an order. Some crazy shit that their computers know you are ordering before you do!

 

Keep in mind when you register property with the state...you no longer “own” it as private property...your just a tenant that’s how they know!

 

Not sure why this is unnerving? State Farm calls me quarterly for an odometer reading. It’s how I maintain my discount, and how they adjust insurance rates if someone is driving 2k miles annually or 200k.

 

My insurance just contacted me about the wife’s Acura and said they were bumping my plan up to 25k miles a year from 15k per year. So, I called them and thanked them for informing me and dropped my other 2 vehicles down to 8k from 15k.

 

When I renew my Registration it never asks anything about Mileage.

 

Tenants can't sell property.

So do you just leave your vehicle at the registry when you are done with it?

Do they fix it for you when it breaks while you are using it?

I’m pretty sure they get my wife’s mileage through the dealership from service visits.
