Started with GEICO in May, then progressive in November. I’m with American Family now. Still not happy with the prices for my lack of claims vs coverage cost. $2400/ year… same price I was paying for 5 cars when I was 27. Those five cars 2 of them had full coverage and the other three didn’t not but, Porsche, Tundra, GMC 2500, Scion FR-S and a s-10 seem like the $2400/ year was warranted given I was driving 35,000 miles plus a year. The VW Tiguan and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited don’t really warrant the insurance premium or whatever in my opinion.

my coworker has a $90,000 gmc diesel 2500 2022 and 2019 Honda civic between he and his wife and they pay the same as me.. not sure what to think about that either.

It is crazy how I have been "giving them free money" (no claims etc) for more than 30 years that if I was treated reasonably I would continue giving them free money.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good insurance company or if that even exist anymore?

@Jimmyh I find that using an independent agent can really help. One with a good reputation who represents several good carriers can cover a lot of ground in a hurry.

AAA is actually an independent as well as a carrier. Although they typically seem to have only 4 other carriers besides themselves.

Even if you're not a member, no harm in adding them to your shopping list. If they meet your need a membership is easy to open.

Time to shop around, yes rates are going up for everyone but I was able to get a much lower rate when I changed providers last summer. What I would do prior to the meeting is go on the major insurance sites and do a quick quote for your vehicles and see how close they are they to your rate or cheaper, just be sure to look at your coverage, deductible, etc before hand so you can make an equal comparison.

I have always found a very wide spread of costs between companies and wound up with a good rate.

I at least do some online quotes every 2 years just to see where I am sitting.

I didn't think about an Independent Agent. Thanks Bill!

I know Auto Owners only uses Independent Agents. Does anyone have an Auto Owners Policy?

Yes, All companies I have checked so far have been in the 6 month range of $613.00 lowest and $846.00 highest.
Where GEICO has me bumped up to just over $1,700.00 every 6 months. All at the same coverage etc...

    Huge Difference yes?

I'm thinking that has to be a mistake.

There's full coverage and then there's full coverage. I pay about $2200 per year not only for full coverage but also for the highest limits offered for both my '18 Tacoma and my '88 911 through the Auto Club of Southern California. Great service. Great rates and five free notary signatures per day. My rates went down during the pandemic and have not changed much in years. The biggest change was when I bought the Tacoma which is a lot more to insure than the Porsche. And insurance isn't just to pay for getting your car fixed after an accident, it's also to help protect your financial assets if you're found liable for something auto related. But I will say that, briefly, about twenty years ago, I moved to State Farm and had two incidents with them - one where I was rear ended and they treated me like I had committed rear end insurance fraud and the other when I got a rolling through a stop sign ticket on my bicycle in Palos Verde and those motherfuckers at State Farm raised my rates for a ticket I got on a bicycle. It took four months of haggling with those idiots to get that reversed and I finally succeeded when I asked them if they covered me when i was on my bike. Well, er, no. Well, that argument got it all reversed retroactively but just the way they treated me left a real bad taste. And every year, with the Auto Club, you get an approximately ten percent rebate applied to the next year's insurance. In addition, their homeowner's rates are about half of what I could find anywhere else and there's a further discount there for combining the two.

Been with Allstate for 22 years and ours continuously increase every time we get billed, but only small increases. The last bill was about $840 for a 2010 Tacoma and 2007 HHR.
We take advantage of the 55-and-a-live discount, defensive driving course, but I think they get it somewhere else in the premium. Here it's supposedly supposed to save each driver 10%

I agree, a few years ago my State Farm policy went up after years of claim free coverage. I shopped all of the "major" carriers - Progressive, Geico, Allstate, Farm Bureau, etc, and all quotes were within a few pct of each other (3 cars - full coverage, low deducts, RV, 2 golf carts, two homes). I contacted a local independent agent and she wrote a policy with the same auto coverage and better home owners coverage for 20% less than my "then" current premium. My premiums have also increased, but I recently went through the same "shopping" exercise and the my savings continue to be around 20%. My current carrier is a company called Pekin Ins. They are not a national carrier (20 states), and avoid writing high risk policies (so I'm advised by my agent). FWIW

I was with State Farm for over 20yrs. No claims. Once I hit 66, my rates jumped 40%. I switched to Hartford for 6 mo. and there’s did the same. Old age is a liability. I now buy car insurance like I buy socks on Amazon.
I been to car insurance agents and they will not tell you face to face it’s your age, they just say there’s been a cost increase. Now I’m with geico and last Dec.my 6 mo. Premium was 347.50. So this June they will probably double that I suppose. And I will drop them like a rock.

Switch companies. I went from one trying to get me for $1200 no budging. Now paying $500 for equivalent insurance. YMMV

Insurance companies use your credit score as one of the factors to determine your rate. If something happened to lower your credit score at just the right time it can make a difference. My insurance company does a once yearly snapshot of your credit score. If you get a new car loan your rating will take a small hit for 2-3 months then go back up.
