Intake/Exhaust ARE THEY WORTH IT ??????

    from what Im reading everywhere....... The CAI doesnt do much for performance, and is usually loud.......

    I prefer to gain HP without compromising my quite smooth ride......

    Ive had the loud straight pipe exhaust trucks in my past (high school) when it was "cool" to be loud.......

    I go on road trips, and think the constant sound of intake/exhaust would annoy the hell out of me.


    opinions on this??????

    save your money, keep it stock.. you wont gain any horse power worth a damn like 5 hp tops unless you go supercharged.

    I think im gonna keep performance at the stock level......of course a K&N drop in has already been done.

    Spend the money saved on a 6" lifter..........

    well now the lift kit is totally different subject......

    What size tires can I fit under a 3" lift??

    Thanks all for your input.....

    Decided to stay stock, due to most of my offorading being in wet/muddy conditions with water crossings........
    May add a magnaflow muffler in place of stock can....but that would be it.....

    I'm sure all of the major manufacturers have a dyno chart showing peak hp gains. And on a small engine (4L) those gains won't be excessive.

    Your engines computer is not designed for aftermarket items that *make horsepower* so unless you retune your ECU you wont see gains higher than say 5 HP.. simple as that they will make lots of noise and sound cool but your fuel air mix is still going to remain the same.:cool:

    but hey if your butt dyno is saying otherwise who are we to judge.......

    Ok so add up all the things you want to complete your cheap aftermarket horsepower build:

    Intake: $250-$350
    Headers: $700
    Exhaust: $250-400
    URD calibrator: $200

    Total for maybe 10-20 HP $1500+labor

    Supercharger:$4000+labor for 75-120 horsepower.

    Total kit you would need optimally would be all of the above items to work in sync with each other $6000+ for parts and labor.

    All I am saying is simply getting an intake and exhaust will do almost nothing power wise and will cost a lot of money to have a loud high RPM.

    Use the extra cash saved to go with bumpers and lift.

    Won't a supercharger just suck gas?

    And for the quoted $4,000 for supercharger..... Doesn't include exhaust to get that extra air out of the motor.......

    Wouldn't you have to spend more $$ to get any advantage from a supercharger.......
    Just seems like a charger wouldn't do much good without headers and exhaust......

    Correct me if I'm wrong.....

    Without headers/exhaust you can expect 100hp gain from a charger 'alone' ?.?.

    On average, without any other supporting mods, like Whippersnapper02 mentioned, it will take your wheel HP from around 200, to ~300. Usually just a tad under. Intake and headers will bump you over.
