Good work:) I think it's cool you're fabbing a one of a kind system and if it works well, extra cool!

Believe it or not, I think this is going to be the answer. As much as I hate to, I think I’m going to just say the hell with this complete venture. I have verified that the restriction is gone with the airbox lid open. I was able to assemble the truck with the upgraded elbow and extension pipe and drove it down the road. The picture will show the results. I hate giving in to something sometimes, but I’ve decided that it’s not worth the hassle. I’ve got too much going on with trying to get it back together to begin with. Now I’m thinking of yet another (simple) trick that I learned from ford. Mask the air box away from the hot air of the radiator with a rubber sheet. That way cold air will be fed from around the headlight area directly to the deck plate area. Anyway, I hate it, but I do know when to throw in the towel. Lots and lots of modifications are going to have to take place before that complete snorkel system is restriction free, complete redesign. I’m kinda bummed, too bad I quit drinking almost a year ago. Damn it....E2461DA9-F2E5-45C5-A137-EA9677C6E1BD.jpg

On the bright side, it was an improvement. Before that elbow it would pull the gauge all the way down.

Are you gonna at least wedge something between the filter and box to keep the filter tightly against the intake frame?

No, the lid will be closed. I opened the box lid just as a test. I actually put everything back the way it was, using the oem components. I did a better job of sealing the oem joints, and hooked the snorkel back up the way it’s always been. I’ll either leave it like it is, or I may install the deck plate. I don’t know. I’ve literally had this truck in the shop for almost a year, working on it every chance that I got. I’m burnt out!
Plus I’ve been studying other air intake systems, given everything that I have to go by is way bigger than a 3.4l. If you stand back and look at the truck with the snorkel installed, count the bends and think about the effect it will have on the airflow. It’s a losing battle to get ten foot of zigzagged 3” pipe to flow what a 2ft straight 3” pipe would flow. Plus the 90 deg turn into the fender well is just stubbed straight in an open chamber, I’m not sure but i could see a “tornado” effect going on in that bend at high rpm. I feel like shit because I’ve failed at this attempt, but just like so many other people have commented, the ends don’t justify the means.

For those who don’t know, this is what I mean about the deck plate install.17B8B137-5F29-4AFD-9A57-3A816C28F410.jpg
