I had the S&B cold air intake on my 23 tacoma. I ended up taking it off and putting the stock one back on. I felt like I was losing mpg and power because the car and ECU is designed to work with your stock intake box. also, made extra noise for no reason. Sounded fast but was slow AF

another good reason to avoid intakes is if you actually take your truck into mud or water crossings, you always risk hydrolock. The risk is always there regardless of what intake system you have (except the snorkel) but with the stock airbox it is least likely to happen

Factory intake and filter changed regularly. Been in this game too long to think anything else is worth it.

    Might help right.

The red line is stock, blue and black are HPS tube installed.

I appreciate the response. How's the noise? I'll do anything for a little more HP, just don't want the truck much louder than stock.

What the hell happened on the run with the stock intake? Is that from a different day overlaid onto the pulls later with the HPS? The scaling looks way off.

Originally opted for TRD accelerator flange only, but picked up the rest of the TRD intake once it came on sale. Went in this direction purely based on aesthetics, the fact that it is a factory upgrade is gravy on top.

My HPS tube is silent when driving normal. You can really start hearing the “snarl” at 4.5K RPMS or so. I love it.

I like the looks of the TRD and other intakes, but I’m skeptical that they provide anything more than pleasing the eye.

    It’s really debatable……..

When I first installed it, my mileage dropped. This was due to listening to the sound. After a month or so, I was back to driving normally and mileage returned to normal.

As far as power, it seems to pull a bit harder at about 4000-4500, really hard to tell. Might be a placebo of the sound?

I bought it because I liked the looks of it. That was 99% of it for me.

It is louder than the stock resonator, so you will hear it more so in the high RPM range. Everything is loud on my truck so it kind of just fits in.

All runs were on the same day, same time all within about 30 to 45 min of each other. It took me about 15-20 min on the dyno to switch the tubes out. I don't know enough to give you a reason why it looks the way it does. Is there something that looks obviously incorrect that I can research?

Ah ok. I had an AFE momentum CAI intake for a hot second and hated it. Sounded like a dang vacuum cleaner over 3k RPMs. Definitely want to avoid that.

Yeah, don't look at just the peak numbers but the overall curve. The red lines dip down to below 0 rwhp/tq from about 3400 to 4300 rpm. At 4500 rpm its making like 25 rwhp, no way thats right. The graph doesn't like right power wise until about 5250... oddly enough right were hp and tq should cross.

I'd guess maybe they got out of the throttle for some reason, the car shifted or the overlay didn't scale right. I'm not really sure what happened here. Thought maybe you knew.
