Lol! That’s an old school velocity stack. Hot rodders used those on CARBURETED engines right on top of the throttle. That far away from it and IN FRONT of the air filter (not to mention EFI) it does jack shit. Except maybe now your splash guard is gone. Nice

Does anyone have a part number for the TRD air accelerator?

For those installing an aftermarket intake for the aesthetics, have you found that it helps get dates when you pop the hood in the bar parking lot? Or maybe you just removed the hood all together to attract the ladies with your sexy intake?

Seriously though, why do you care about the aesthetics of your engine compartment? It’s not like a taco is a bad ass muscle car that you can bring to a car show.

I like the look of the TRD Intake...but, it's bloody expensive! ($384)

EDIT: I have the OTT Tune, 8.0.

Just asked the Parts Guy at PrestigeToyota in NY when TRD items go on sale...he said, "check between Apr-Jun".

I'll keep that in mind when I drive across the ocean this spring in my Tacoma. It just allows the airbox to pull air from the whole inlet instead of being obstructed. It's a much more efficient design and it's literally a TRD part. If you don't want it, don't install it. #thanksboomer.

Thanks. I have been searching for at least an hour. I want to run the accelerator with Wix filters. Saving my cash for sliders and Bilstein's.

Yep. I can’t remember the exact numbers but one tuner was either tuning a turbo or an SC and even at the upper end of HP with forced induction they were just barely over running the stock air box. So yeah, it’s all plenty for an NA truck.

There is more aftermarket support with proven HP gains for the 2.7, maybe go that route, I did and I think I’m close to hitting 180hp

Oh man. Not sure how much it helps but the TRD intake is just an airbox lid, filter, tube, and this accelerator, so figure it must help somehow plus it's cheap and you can get it by itself.

:facepalm:My dad is the hot rodding boomer, but your condescension has been noted.

The stock intake ain’t obstructed. But telling by your reply, there’s no sense in trying to inform you. You’ve spent the time and money, and your butt dyno gave you the needed reassurance. All good, my friend.

Power-wise, the stock intake is definitely adequate and already a decent design, just restricted a bit for NVH. I've also seen where even a cone filter on these doesn't increase power noticeably. The engine is only going to pull as much air as it needs, but on every vehicle I've owned upgrading the intake to flow easier provides increased throttle response and smoother shifting. Those are the reasons I chose to upgrade, and they proved to be true on this platform as well. I don't know or care if it increased power, but that's not what I was after. Plus changing out the stock intake tube lets this motor scream above 4k rpm which sounds pretty awesome when you're getting on it.

S&B. Looks fantastic! Big, plexi wi dow to see filter condition. Has a dry option filter, which I chose. Zero performance gains but does cause a fantastic sound. Easy install and does not throw an engine code.

I replaced the filter with the TRD filter just because I found a new one for cheap and I have a cleaning kit. Added the air flow accelerator. No point in changing a reliable well-designed air intake.

Only difference was my bank account was less $40.00 . I did not expect much but it was low cost. This is why I would never spend big dollars on an air intake for a naturally aspirated vehicle. Been there done that many times before with no negligible difference.

I noticed it quieted down the induction sound.

I did my multi-piece aftermarket intake in stages: HPS silicone tube, then the Green Filter, and lastly the TRD Intake Air Accelerator. I have the TRD stainless exhaust. I live at 7000' and drive over 11000' so every little bit helps. The high-octane OV tune was the best upgrade so far.
