Not really that impressive, I have everything turn off on mine besides the blind spot monitor and sonar parking.

As FMJ said, the adaptive cruise has its quirks.
The most annoying for me is that when you come up on a vehicle and the cruise slows you down, when you change lanes to pass, the truck drops down 2 gears and hauls ass back up to the set speed. As soon as KDmax gets the tune set up to control this, I'm in. I really like the adaptive cruise but the crazy gear change and speeding up sucks.

personal choices...I do like the adaptive cruise. wife has new RAV4 limited with all the bells and whistles.

I got $31.6 trade in on my 2016 limited with 81k. Paid $33.5 in 2017. I got a new one coming (TRD sport) for $46k plus $1800 'finders fee'. I know it is dealer markup but that is the only way to get a new truck. 9/10 new vehicles delivered to a dealership are already sold.

now I will have the cruise and power rear window...and a truck with no miles!

Never use the adaptive cruise in wife's rav4. Hate it. Slows down waaayyy too soon and is just annoying. I hold button and just use regular cruise. Agree with people needing to just pay attention to driving instead of all these nanny features. Take uber or let someone else drive.

We have these systems in the sienna.

Adaptive cruise is nice for me in one situation:higher speed single lane multiple car lines….it’ll automatically keep up/safe distance with the car in front in these variable speed conga lines without you having to guess/modulate the throttle. It’s a liability anywhere else lol it allows you to not pay as much attention to your speed or lack thereof.

The lane departure stuff doesn’t like the lines I take thru our rural twisty two lanes so I keep it turned off.

The panoramic camera is awesome and the adaptive cruise control is much nicer than I expected. I would expect any new vehicle to have rear parking sensors and blind spot monitors, they work as intended and I like the features.

I’m actually very surprised the Tacoma doesn’t have parking sensors on the front. My wife’s VW has them and I just figured that all new vehicles were going that direction.

One thing I don’t know on the Tacoma, why can’t the Off Road have MTM and blind spot monitors/rear cross traffic alert? The Sport has the PVM available with those features.

It can/does have that ability. Maybe it's a regional shortage that prevents you from selecting that option on Toyota's website? But I'm fairly certain it is an option.

If you really love new tech, I would wait for the next generation which should be a huge leap forward. The features in newer 3rd gens is nice but they're stuffing new tech in an old design and it has limitations.

Agreed with all. I drove a new one when my 19 was serviced. The pano cam and the radio is a nice improvement but mine has everything else. The adaptive cruise sucks, it brakes hard coming up on slowing traffic and I feel I’d get rear ended. You can use it like a standard cruise by simply holding in the power button and it operates like every other cruise you ever had. That’s the only way I use it.

Adaptive cruise and lane departure are nice features on cars such as the Avalon. With it's electric brakes and steering, it can correct lane departures (if the road is properly lined) and totally stop the car if necessary. Not so much on the Tacoma.

Actually in the Subaru it plugged in behind the rear view mirror. It's nice that you can get it for some vehicles, but another couple hundred instead of just being able to permanently disable it through a menu in the vehicle is an oversight. Most people want that option. On the Subaru forums it was ranted and raved about. That system sucks though. I drove a rav 4 with it and it wasn't as bad, but still annoying. Personal preference. Still, the tss was super aggressive and I've have to disable it everytime before driving. The one on the Tacoma hasn't bothered me one bit. Never had it hard brake while trying to pass someone on a 2 lane highway like the Subaru did... Fucken dangerous man. Actually, I don't even notice it at all unless the snow builds up and it flashes the warning that is been disabled.

Some mentioned the blind spot monitoring. That I actually like. It's not as invasive as I thought it would be - like on the highway. In my families Ram it's a super bright annoying warning. In the Tacoma it's kinda just there. But I have noticed it beeping at me when backing up and I'm like "yea, I see him I know zip it". On the roads, not so annoying I can live with it.

For me, adaptive cruise no, lane centering no, blind spot monitoring whatever, auto start stop I'd never buy another vehicle with it that didn't have the option to permanently disable it without spending more money.

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I'll hold off for now. Looks like all that technology and my lead foot won't mix. I'll probably go test drive one to just get a feel for it though.

Lane keep assist is horrible on Tacoma. My 2022 Civic actually drives itself. Stays in the lane perfectly all by itself. With cruise and lane keep on I'm not driving at all. It's crazy how far this tech has come.

I'm a fan of the collision avoidance system. I have all of the other stuff turned off. I've had 2 instances, one with a deer and one with an idiot driver that caused my collision avoidance to activate. I was amazed at how fast my truck stopped. I've been both driving and riding motorcycles on the road for 36 years and I haven't had an accident, so it's not a matter of being lazy or not paying attention. Sometimes shit just happens and in both instances I don't think I would have gotten my truck stopped that quick on my own. It just flat out works.

I hate the adaptive cruise, I feel like it causes an already overly shifty trans to shift even more

I'm surprised it took until post 25 and someone with a gen 2 to have someone call them nanny features. The fact that you have technology as an extra layer of safety doesn't mean you don't pay attention or can't drive. Blind spot monitors, cross traffic detection, emergency braking, etc are there to back us up, not take over. I ride a motorcycle and wish to hell everyone had blind spot monitoring. Every single one of us has made a mistake while driving and has had close calls because of them. I welcome an extra set of electronic eyes and don't see these features as an assault on my manhood.

And BTW, you can set how close you get to the car in front of you before adaptive cruise slows you down. The button in both the Rav and the Taco is right there on the steering wheel. The lowest setting gets you within a couple of car lengths.

I upgraded from a 2016 to 2018, the first year they put all the nanny systems in.

Admittedly, it took a few months to get used to. It annoyed me at first. Eventually I learned to like it. I never use or depend on the collision warning, lane departure, BSM, or cross traffic alert, but I still leave all of it turned on. While it has never been earth shattering or life saving, its just nice to have a "hey dumbass, wake up and pay attention!!" reminder once in a while.

Because sometimes you are tired, you are watching some barreling, weaving, texting wild-ass whos about to tear up your left side, and while looking for an escape route to the right and rear your eyes-forward checks arent as frequent as they should be. Its happened to me once, I was watching for a lane change when traffic unexpectedly ground to a halt, the truck-nanny called me out for my dumbshittery, and I was grateful for that friendly reminder to wake the fuck up.

The adaptive cruise is nice too. Its quirky, but growing up I was always taught that the cruise should never be turned on when A) there's heavy traffic, B) it's raining/snowing/off pavement, C) when pulling a trailer or heavy load, and/or D) through heavy hills or sharp curves. This cruise might be adaptive, but its still primitive in that it hasnt conquered any of those scenarios yet (it really fails over hills) so I don't turn it on as often as others might.

At the end of the day I have no regrets. Been driving with the nannies since 2018, and though I try to ignore their presence (as a good driver should), I like that they are there.
