Well hello everyone. I am am currently looking at a Tacoma (2015 access cab, 4x4, manual transmission). This will be a daily driver and weekend warrior. I have an older saturn SL1 (170k) that I will still have to save on a gas. However when that dies the truck will take over most likely. I am normally one to try to buy used but these damn trucks are like Wranglers and hold their value like no other. I would rather spend an few thousand more for a new truck with no miles and full warranty. When I look at buying a vehicle I look to the forums to see if there is good info on how to work on the vehicle. This forum has a wealth of info and that's a big plus for me, as I try to work on my own vehicles as much as possible.

I thought about waiting for the 2016 but I like the fact the 2nd Gens are proven and have little issues and have less electrical gizmos to go wrong.

The other options on the table is Ford Ranger FX4 (2009-2011), family member selling a nice 2003 GMC 1500 Z71 with 140k for dealer trade in price or a 2004-2006 Jeep Wrangler. The Tacoma is the only NEW vehicle I will really consider purchasing. They are 1 of 2 manufactures that still offers 4x4 with a manual.

I am leaning toward the V6 engine due to power and in the future if I need to tow a trailer with dirt bikes, jet skis or a boat, I would like to not worry about it. From what I am reading the V6 and the 4cyl are both very reliable. Gas milage looks like its OK with the V6.

Anyone from the metro detroit area know of any dealers/sales people that are straight forward and not sharks?

Go with the taco! You will love it! This forum has TONS of info and cool mod ideas. Also, get the v6. The gas mileage is damn near the exact same if you drive it right. I was regularly getting 21 mpgs with my v6 double cab before I lifted it and got bigger tires.
