Interior bolt size needed.

I need the forums help again. I am missing the two screws / bolts that hold the trim cover on that has the cigarette lighters in it. The cover in front of the shifter. Anyone know what size they are? I have searched on the internet and can’t find them. None of the bolts / screws I have are the same tread or size.

 

They are not bolts, they are plastic retainers. The middle of the fastener expands the body when pushed in to hold the trim in place.
You will have to go to Toyota, unless you modify it to take a screw of some size.

You can actually get those clips at Napa, they have them in the general interior parts section and the bag says Toyota on it, they have other Toyota clips too if you're missing others.

 

Those are what I like to call "push in / pull out" clips. You push in the middle pin and then pull the whole clip out. I didn't know how they worked before learning this. I just tried to pry them off and broke both of them.

 

You can also pick up bags of 100 on fleabay for just a few bucks (about the same as Autozone wanted for six or eight of them). I stockpiled several sizes.

 

Ace Hardware has a bunch of generic sizes of these clips as well.

 

Just to clarify about how to remove and replace one of those clips...

1. When new, the center pin should protrude out from the larger diameter part of the clip. The rear of the clip will then be small enough to fit intoip into the hole that it was designed to fit.

2. After you have placed the clip fully into the hole, push its center pin in until it's flush with the rest of the clip. That expands the rear of the clip and locks it into place.

3. To remove the clip, use a small, blunt nailset (or screwdriver if you don't have a nailset) to push the center pin down into the clip and then pull the entire clip out.

Or do like I did and just pry the whole thing out and break it...

 

Funny. I have owned 5 toyota trucks or 4runners and have broke these every time I have had to remove them. Thanks for the info and an example of how helpful the people are on this site.
