    Hi,

So I totally did not plan properly for the install of a 400w anytime and in cab power outlet mod. I obviously destroyed my interior trim. Can anyone tell me what part I need to replace this damaged trim piece in the passenger side of my 2019 TRD Off Road Tacoma? Embarrassed and hoping this community of experts can help.

    Best
    A

OP this looks like the part.

Now that you can replace it, what on God's green earth were you cutting that with? And why does it look like you about started a second hole? At what point did you realize you messed up?

Cut twice measure once. Haven't ya ever heard that?

The good news is that piece of trim is less expensive than I had expected. Hope you can make a single, clean cut next time around.

Just look at it this way. Now you know where to cut and cutting it will be easier while it's not installed in the truck.

Don't feel bad because everyone in here has done something similar or worse and most won't admit it.

I'll admit, that is quite caveman-ish drilling with the piece still on. I've done way worse, although it was years ago in my wacky tabacky colorado days.

The second hole was actually the first

And if you look closely there are 3 total holes with the hole saw bit.

After the first hole I realized no way that outlet was gonna fit because of the metal bracket behind the trim piece so I said oh well knowing I would be replacing the trim and did some exploratory cutting to find the place that it would fit.

You can use that desk grommet outlet on the back of the center counsel, it'll fit with room to spare. Make sure you use a hole saw smaller than the outside ring for obvious reasons. And take the center counsel out before drilling. :)

I was trying to put it up front because on long road trips I usually have the back seats folded down and figured it would be blocked by the seats. Maybe that was foolish and I should just get an extension cord with a flat/slim plug profile. Regardless I obviously made lots of bad decisions here. The cut on my hand from the hole saw, the multiple holes poorly drilled, not checking if the desk grommet outlet would fit and not be blocked by a bracket, drinking bourbon before attempting this whole escapade, doing it at 1130 at night, etc etc. Poor choices all around.

It's all good, it's cheap plastic. It'll fit behind the center counsol with the seats down.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    @uptaco:
    The next time, consider this:
Occasionally when using a hole saw it is NOT necessary or desirable to use the pilot bit. Commonly when trying to re-drill an off-center hole, or not wanting the pilot bit to damage something on the other side.
Drill the desired size hole through a thin scrap of plywood. Clamp that plywood to the surface you want the hole in. Remove the pilot bit if appropriate. Use the hole in the plywood to keep the hole saw in the correct location.

Right around when the hole saw slipped and caught my finger. This was my first time using a hole saw (that was obvious from the hack job)
